A Brief Overview The Project Engineer reports to the Vice President of Construction and will work with various roles to support the Hunt Communities team's needs. This position is responsible for assisting the Vice President of Construction with planning, overseeing, and documenting construction activities for various Projects across the portfolio. This role's responsibilities include assisting with subcontractor and supplier invoicing, project buyout/procurement, schedule updates, budget entries and updates, coordination with project superintendents on construction activities/needs, occasional on-site construction management, 3rd-party inspections, and project close-out. Additional responsibilities include exercising sound judgment and discretion in making recommendations, implementing policies and procedures, and handling a wide variety of office- and field-related matters.
What you will do
- Assists with planning, monitoring, and managing all aspects of multiple, small to large-scale construction projects, including initiation, planning, execution, verification, and closure in accordance with internal process methodologies.
- Assists with verification and tracking of contractor and project completion according to project plans (i.e., scope, schedule, budget).
- Assists with project planning, resourcing, progress reporting, contractor management, and troubleshooting.
- Monitors project and contractor performance and tracks schedule changes, cost adjustments, or resource additions.
- Monitors and tracks project schedules and verifies that materials, equipment, and/or resources are delivered and/or installed in accordance with approved submittals, plans, and specifications.
- Supports the field and office through independent critical analysis of submittals, shop drawings, and project plans and specifications.
- Supports the Vice President of Construction with quality assurance and control by conducting field verification and documenting completed work per approved shop drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Provides timely and accurate information and status updates to the Vice President of Construction and other Hunt Communities Project Managers.
- Promotes safety - assists with the implementation of all applicable HSE programs, policies, and procedures.
- Maintains positive relationships with clients, general/sub-contractors, and consultants on the job.
- Assists with the preparation of project reports for the Vice President of Construction.
- Confers with project personnel to resolve problems, makes project recommendations, and escalates as appropriate.
- Assists with the RFP process, creation, and development of the proposal.
- Coordinates and tracks the RFI, ASI, and IDC processes.
- Assists with the processing of contract bonds, insurance, pay applications, correspondence, change estimates, and change orders.
- Reads, understands, and comments on construction documents and contract specifications.
- Ability to travel to projects throughout the Hunt portfolio, at times with limited to no prior notice.
- This position requires driving for the Company using either 1) a Company vehicle, at any frequency from Rarely to Constantly; or, 2) a Personal or Rental vehicle to conduct Company business more than 50% of the time to perform work duties.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Civil Engineering, Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline. Preferred
- High School Diploma or GED with Construction experience. Required
- 1-3 years professional experience, preferably in construction, development, or engineering, with an understanding of project management and construction processes. Preferred
- Requires a self-motivated, team player who pays close attention to detail and can prioritize in a fast-moving environment with excellent learning, organization, and communication abilities. Effectively receive directions and independently carry out tasks to completion. Takes initiative to identify and anticipate management needs and make recommendations for implementation.
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Requires working knowledge of construction plans and specifications for large-scale developments
- Strong time management and organization skills.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- DL NUMBER - Driver's License, Valid and in State Required
