Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program. We are in search of new talent in the following position... Position: Maintenance Worker I The *Maintenance Worker I* is responsible for cleaning of the building and grounds and some minor repairs. Eden House is a single room occupancy residence (SRO) providing permanent, supportive housing to formerly homeless single adults, including those suffering from mental illness or HIV/AIDS. Maintenance Worker I Principal Responsibilities: Clean areas and dispose of garbage in accordance with the facility schedule. Complete work orders. Accept and transport deliveries of supplies, furniture, and other program materials. Assist in inventory control. Provide back up in emergency safety situations. Work Environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be in a residential shelter environment. Activities occur inside and outside. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
