What you'll do and what you'll bring:

.Position Function: Serve as lead Parking Enforcement Officer in the ticketing of vehicles, provide customer service, conduct emergency phone checks on exterior emergency phone boxes, booting/towing and various errands; perform duties related to maintenance and repair of all parking meters; assist with traffic flow at university events.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Serve as lead Parking Enforcement Officer; perform data entry on portable electronic ticket writer for ticketing of vehicles that are in violation of Ball State University rules and regulations; coordinate booting and towing of vehicles; assist in providing training to new Parking Enforcement Officers and provide feedback in regard to ticket volume, errors, enforcement variations, etc.

Requires the physical ability to exert in excess of 35 pounds of force frequently. Requires the physical ability to sit for periods of time and drive university vehicles. Requires the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to read, write, comprehend, and follow written instructions and information, and to receive, comprehend and follow oral instructions and information. Requires the mental ability to analyze problem situations and adjust to varying work assignments, use judgment and discretion, and demonstrate appropriate written and verbal communication skills. Task requires use of vehicles, electronic ticket writer and boot.

2. Provide guidance and customer service to Ball State University faculty, staff, and students by informing them of parking and transportation regulations and options. Acquire and maintain knowledge of Ball State University policies, procedures, rules and regulations as they pertain to Parking Services and Public Safety operations; follow written departmental policies and procedures; attend periodic training as it relates to this position.

3. Serve as needed for the Motor Assist Program; unlock vehicles, jumpstart vehicles, inflate tires, transport motorists to gas stations, and attend to other parking problems; serve as needed to drive the Charlie's Charter van.

Requires the physical ability to exert in excess of 30 pounds of force frequently. Requires the physical ability to sit for extended periods of time and drive university vehicles. May require the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to read, write, comprehend, and follow written instructions and information, and to receive, comprehend and follow oral instructions and information. Requires the mental ability to analyze problem situations and adjust to varying work assignments, use judgment and discretion, and demonstrate appropriate written and verbal communication skills. Task requires use of vehicles and knowledge of basic automotive skills.

4. Install barricades and temporary signage for special events; report missing signage as appropriate; assist with special event overtime assignments for university concerts, athletic events, or any other event as needed; assist in preparation and activities related to special campus events such as move-in, move-out, commencement, homecoming, Emens shows, etc.

Requires the physical ability to exert in excess of 55 pounds of force frequently. Requires the physical ability to lift items with arms extended, overhead and to push or pull items as necessary. Requires the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to read, write, comprehend, and follow written instructions and information, and to receive, comprehend and follow oral instructions and information. Requires the mental ability to analyze problem situations and adjust to varying work assignments, use judgment and discretion, and demonstrate appropriate written and verbal communication skills. Requires the physical ability to sit for extended periods of time and drive university vehicles.

5. Collect monies and monitor and inspect equipment in all parking garages daily or as needed to ensure proper operation and paper rolls do not run out; transport all monies to bank daily or as needed for deposit; turn all financial documents in to Parking Services bookkeeper.

Task requires use of vehicles.

6. Perform annual maintenance on electronic meters (replacing batteries and numbering); repair malfunctioning, broken, or vandalized meters or signage; includes determine extent and nature of problem and coordinate work repair through shops for specialized work or vendor support.

Requires the physical ability to exert in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to read, write, comprehend, and follow written instructions and information, and to receive, comprehend and follow oral instructions and information. Requires the mental ability to analyze problem situations and adjust to varying work assignments, use judgment and discretion, and demonstrate appropriate written and verbal communication skills. Task requires use of vehicles.

7. Install or remove parking instructional and directional signage as needed or required and coordinate and monitor installation of new or existing sign posts; includes report problems with signage to appropriate supervisors and coordinate work orders through shops for needed work.

Requires the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions. Requires the mental ability to analyze problem situations and adjust to varying work assignments, use judgment and discretion, and demonstrate appropriate written and verbal communication skills. Task may require use of vehicles.

8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

May require any of the above-mentioned abilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

2. Over one year of customer service experience.
3. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
4. Must be able to read and comprehend all University policies, procedures and communications.
5. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
6. Must be 18 years or older.

Preferred Qualifications:

Up to eighteen months of education beyond high school.

Additional years of customer service experience; possess basic automotive knowledge; ability to handle stressful situations.
