Title: Audio Visual Services Team Leader Executive Area: Information Technologies College/School/MBU: Information Technology Department: IT Operations Work Location: Amherst Schedule: Full Time Work Arrangement: Onsite Job Summary The Head of Audiovisual and Digital Learning Technologies provide strategic leadership for campuswide AV systems and digital learning environments in a large, complex higher education setting. This role directs the planning, design, lifecycle management, and modernization of flexible and hybrid classrooms; serves as a senior advisor to academic and administrative leadership; and partners closely with Central IT and other stakeholders to establish standards, service models, and multiyear technology roadmaps. The Head ensures AV environments are scalable, accessible, reliable, and aligned with institutional teaching and learning priorities. Essential Functions Direct the planning, design, and lifecycle management of enterprise scale AV systems, including flexible and future ready classrooms. Ensure alignment with institutional academic priorities, teaching modalities, accessibility standards, and emerging instructional technologies.
Ensure responsive, enterpriselevel customer engagement for faculty, campus leadership, and executive stakeholders, addressing complex needs with diplomacy, sound judgment, and an executive service mindset.
Serve as a senior technical consultant and advisor to academic and administrative leadership on media technology strategy for classrooms, large venue instruction, and major campus events. Translate pedagogical and business needs into sustainable, standards based AV solutions.
Provide leadership and direction to a team delivering AV integration projects, overseeing installation timelines, design integrity, and technology selection in alignment with enterprise standards and longterm lifecycle planning.
Lead campus wide assessment of instructional and media technology needs, overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of AV services and platforms. Act as a primary institutional liaison with Central IT, procurement, facilities, and external vendors to guide technology selection, capital investments, replacement cycles, and asset management.
Partner closely with Central IT, academic leadership, and governance groups to advance video conferencing, lecture capture, digital signage, and hybrid learning ecosystems, ensuring interoperability, security, reliability, and long-term sustainability at scale.
Develop and maintain multi-year strategic roadmaps for AV infrastructure, including refresh cycles, standards evolution, and modernization initiatives that support flexible learning environments and institution wide digital learning goals.
Provide executive oversight of AV capital and operational projects, monitoring progress, risk, and quality across multiple on and off campus locations, and ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and in accordance with institutional standards.
Oversee the strategy and direction for digital learning environments and virtual classrooms, including flexible learning and meeting technologies. Ensure AV design and support practices maximize instructional effectiveness, enhance faculty and student experiences, and enable the delivery of high quality, accessible instructional materials.
Perform setup and support for audiovisual installations and events, including lifting and transporting equipment and materials; assembling and positioning AV systems; and working at elevated heights using ladders or similar equipment for installation purposes. Other Functions Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree with 7 years related experience; or Associate's degree with 9 years of related experience.
Experience with commercial AV integration.
Experience managing AV staff and large-scale digital signage platforms.
Demonstrated strong customer service skills, including experience working effectively with senior leadership and executive stakeholders, and the ability to deescalate complex or sensitive situations.
Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to train users and communicate technical concepts clearly.

Valid Driver's License Preferred Qualifications Experience with Crestron, Extron, and other AV control systems.
Experience with AV design and integration. Working Conditions Work is primarily performed in an indoor university environment and involves lifting and transporting materials or equipment and general physical activity, including prolonged standing, walking, or assuming low postures. Work Schedule and Work Arrangement Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., minimum. Some night and weekend work may be required with participate in team on-call rotation.
