Job Description

This position is part of a team of System Administrators responsible for the design, implementation, management, and support of the MU Research Reactor (MURR) infrastructure. This team ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of enterprise systems, including servers, network resources, and directory services. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in Windows environments and demonstrates the ability to manage and support a complex, multi-layered network architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer and maintain Active Directory services, including user account management, group policies, and security configurations

Install, configure, and support physical and virtual server hardware across Windows and Linux platforms

Monitor system performance and network availability using enterprise monitoring tools; proactively identify and resolve issues

Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network-related problems in a timely and efficient manner

Perform routine system maintenance, patching, and upgrades to ensure optimal performance and security

Collaborate with IT teams, MURR partners/vendors and campus stakeholders to support academic, research and administrative computing needs

Maintain documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures

Ensure compliance with MURR, regulatory, and university IT policies, security standards, and best practices

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

Evening, weekend and call-in work may be required to meet deadlines and correct system failures.

Minimum Qualifications

Proven experience managing Active Directory in an enterprise environment

Hands-on experience with server hardware and virtualization technologies

Experience administering both Windows Server and Linux systems

Strong understanding of network infrastructure and architecture

Experience with system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting in complex environments

Knowledge of security best practices and system hardening

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years of work experience in Tier 3 support, diagnosing and resolving complex network, server and client issues.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $52,915.20 - $100,027 Commensurate with experience
