We want to find an innovative, adaptable, and results-oriented Network Security Engineer for our US Critical National Infrastructure team. This position is located in Liverpool, NY. What you'll do

As a Network Security Engineer, you'll provide technical support for hardware and applications. You'll be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, operating systems, software, and related infrastructure. You'll ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards and security requirements. Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Support of remote sites including data centers with ability to provide smart hands support for infrastructure and network equipment.
  • Manage and maintain enterprisegrade network firewalls, including rule creation, policy reviews, and security hardening.
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot routing and switching infrastructure within a multisite environment.
  • Administer and optimize application delivery and trafficbalancing platforms to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Perform network vulnerability assessments and portscanning activities to identify and remediate security risks.
  • Oversee centralized log collection, monitoring, and alerting systems to support operational visibility and incident response.
  • Maintain and report on security patching on all Firewalls, Routers, Switches, applications for backups, syslog, monitoring, and appliances in the Network, within required time frames.
  • Manage secure network backup processes, including automated configurations, validation, and restoration procedures.
  • Follow NERC CIP Standards and meets time sensitive deadlines.
  • Participate in 24x7 on call rotation, providing application and hardware support.
  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid'sSafe Driver policy.
About you
  • Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of formal education, industry training, and extensive handson experience within enterprise or regulated environments.
  • 8+ years of experience in network engineering roles supporting missioncritical, highavailability infrastructure, preferably within utilities, energy, or other regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design, configuration, operation, and support of enterprisegrade firewalls, routers, and switches, with an emphasis on secure, resilient, and faulttolerant networks.
  • Proven experience creating and maintaining authoritative network documentation, including detailed topology diagrams, logical and physical network designs, and configuration standards to support audits, compliance, and operational continuity.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with technology vendors, system integrators, cybersecurity teams, and internal technical leads to define solutions that meet operational, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience operating in changecontrolled, compliancedriven environments, adhering to formal processes for design reviews, risk assessments, documentation, and implementation approvals.
  • Ability to perform effectively in fastpaced operational environments supporting 24/7 systems, balancing incident response, project delivery, and compliance obligations while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and reliability.
  • Advanced analytical, troubleshooting, and rootcause analysis skills, with the ability to resolve complex network issues while minimizing risk to critical services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with engineering peers, operations staff, management, and audit/compliance stakeholders.

Salary

$102,000 - $119,000 a year

National Grid utilizes an assessment that evaluates the job qualifications/characteristics using AI or statistically based scoring. For more information, please view NYC Local Law 144.
