Position Summary

Provide clinical and administrative leadership, including but not limited to staff scheduling, chart audits, and overall quality of care monitoring for the Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) within the division/department within the Hospital & Clinics. Establish relationships and partnership with APRNs, PAs, departmental representatives, collaborating physicians, medical directors, department heads & organizational leaders to support and improve the practice, quality and outcomes of clinical care and regulatory compliance. Function as a lead in the recruitment, retention, clinical practice, orientation, competency validation & professional development of the APRNs and PAs within a specialty-specific area.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with all outpatient APPs, the Assistant Director of APPs and unit/divisional leadership to achieve organizational and unit/division goals and objectives. Serve as liaison for APPs and the Assistant Director of APPs to manage members of the team

  • Serve as expert resource in the utilization of APPs within the specialty-specific focus area of care delivery. Identify new and existing best practice initiatives, collaborate in the determination of competency metrics, collaborate in assessing financial productivity and participates in clinical outcome data assessment and analysis. Participate in the timely and successful completion of OPPE/FPPE for all APPs within the specialty-specific area

  • Participate and provide feedback to hiring manager regarding candidates, coordinate onboarding of APPs within the specialty-specific area

  • Serve as resource for appropriate APP billing within the specialty-specific area. Assist in identifying benchmarks to evaluate billable & non-billable APP performance. Work with billing/coding and EMR specialists to determine metrics for productivity and evaluation of patient care by APPs. Manage schedule, staffing plan and coverage within the assigned area

  • Work within the Bylaws of the Hospital & Clinics & in adherence to hospital and divisional policy to ensure that APPs function within, and to the limits, of their scope of practice and in accordance with their delineation of privileges or collaborative practice agreement

  • Serve as a resource and champion for professional development opportunities for APPs within the specialty-specific area and serve as a resource to dept leadership, in advancing the professional development of APPs

  • Ensure the maintenance of current credentialing and privileging of APRNs within the specialty-specific area

  • Work in collaboration with the Assistant Director or the Director of Advanced Practice Providers and unit/departmental leadership to establish templates and checklists to ensure documentation of orientation. Work to identify metrics for initial, focused, and ongoing professional performance evaluation, as well as integrated simulation and observation of technical skills. Assist in determining opportunities to increase knowledge & skills of APRNs within the specialty-specific area
  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders to assess best practices and specific changes to APRN practice. Ensure these changes are communicated and incorporated into APRN clinical practice.

  • Work with all outpatient APPs, the Assistant Director of APPs and unit/divisional leadership to achieve organizational and unit/division goals and objectives. Serve as liason for APPs and the Asistant Director of APPs to manage members of the team Serve as expert resource in the utilization of APPs within the specialty-specific focus area of care delivery. Identify new and existing best practice initiatives, collaborate in the determination of competency metrics, collaborate in assessing financial productivity and participates in clinical outcome data assessment and analysis. Participate in the timely and successful completion of OPPE/FPPE for all APPs within the specialty-specific area

  • Establish relationships with key stakeholders to assess best practices and specific changes to APRN practice. Ensure these changes are communicated and incorporated into APRN clinical practice.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Current license as a Professional Registered Nurse and APRN in Illinois
    • Master's degree in nursing
    • Current BLS
    • Demonstrated experience in clinical practice and nursing leadership as an APRN
    • Demonstrate excellent care in outpatient setting
    • Effective communication skills that facilitate therapeutic relationships between physician, APRNs, colleagues and hospital leadership, and the multi-disciplinary team
    • Demonstrated experience in leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, interpersonal communication, education, and clinical experience and change management
    • Intermediate computer skills
