Provide effective leadership and management over assigned major healthcare construction projects. Responsible for guiding planning, design, and construction teams to deliver complex capital projects that support Duke's mission to provide top-tier healthcare services.

Experience in healthcare facilities construction and/or project management preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training - Work general requires organizational, analytical and communication skills normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience - A minimum of fifteen (15) years of work in the Healthcare environment, including operational, administrative and project management of major capital projects.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

Work Performed




  • Direct, plan, and coordinate the development and execution of major capital construction projects within the healthcare system and research enterprise. Serve as the project lead and report to the Executive Director of Facilities Planning, Design & Construction (FPDC), collaborating closely with senior hospital leadership.

    • Set and monitor overall project goals and objectives.
    • Proactively identify and address potential issues before they impact project outcomes.


  • Act as liaison between internal stakeholders and external architects, engineers, and consultants throughout the design and construction phases.

    • Ensure adherence to construction documentation standards and organizational expectations.


  • Negotiate and manage all project-related contracts, including oversight of change orders and vendor performance.

    • Review and approve significant project invoices and financial documentation. Lead value engineering efforts to optimize project scope, cost, and quality.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to establish and manage detailed master budgets and schedules.
    • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.


  • Develop and present project updates and strategic content for executive leadership and governance boards.
  • Serve as principal liaison between hospital administration, clinical departments, procurement, finance, and other support units to ensure alignment and coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with Duke's standards of quality, building codes, and regulatory requirements through regular review and oversight of construction activities.

    • Coordinate construction efforts with local utility providers, municipalities, and other external entities.


  • Maintain relationships with relevant governmental agencies, professional organizations, and peer institutions.
  • Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Grow and develop internal talent through training, education, and mentorship.

    • Oversee personnel functions for assigned staff, including hiring, performance evaluations, promotions, and scheduling.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $89,877.00 to USD $179,754.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
