UCB is looking for a clinically experienced, science-driven driven and patient-focused : Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - Rare Early Indications to work with the Rare Disease Organization (RDO) . To strengthen our Rare Disease neurological missions' team in the South Central Region, which currently includes Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas, however, is subject to change.

About the Role

The MSL provides peer-level scientific exchange with clinicians and researchers working in rare and ultra-rare genetic mitochondrial and autoimmune diseases. This individual develops relationships of trust and mutual support built on common interests in fostering deep, science-driven understanding of complex diseases, advancing potential new therapies, and mapping new strategies for patient value creation. .

What you'll do

  • Further develop and refine your scientific expertise and skillset through regular interaction with external and internal thought leaders.
  • Manage and execute stakeholder engagement within a region based on training, expertise, and individualized approaches to identifying local needs and opportunities.
  • Engage regularly with: clinical trial sites, investigators, key opinion leaders, and patient advocacy organizations with the common goal of seeking to improve the lives of patients with rare and ultra-rare genetic mitochondrial and autoimmune diseases.
  • Provide training and expertise to internal colleagues as a subject matter expert within rare and ultra-rare genetic mitochondrial and autoimmune diseases.
  • Be proactive and identify new ways to bring value to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop evidence generation projects with Centers of Excellence to differentiate UCB and its solutions.
  • Set long-term professional development goals within a company model and culture that fosters
  • Fostering appropriate discussion of UCB research objectives and findings through thought leader engagement and educational activities.
  • Representing UCB at local, regional, and national professional and academic conferences where issues related to the diagnosis and treatment of rare and ultra-rare genetic mitochondrial and autoimmune diseases are addressed.
  • Mapping existing care pathways within a defined region to identify unique or evolving unmet patient needs.
  • Identifying and cultivating potential clinical trial partners and working with existing trial sites to ensure recruitment, participation and reporting objectives are met and are compliant with UCB standards of practice.
  • Developing relationships with leading academic researchers and thought leaders to achieve alignment on key research and clinical objectives.
  • Serving as the local expert in UCB's focus on its rare, early indications pipeline.
  • Identifying and cultivating potential new investigators as well as responding to medical-level inquiries from regional patient advocacy groups.
  • Proactively identify new ways to bring value to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitating access to potentially life-changing therapies.
  • Delivering care support around the patient journey.

Interested? For this position, you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral level degree, PharmD, Ph.D., DNP, and/or MD; Nurse Practitioners with research or clinical expertise in a related field and advanced training/education will be considered
  • 5 + years of Medical Science Liaison experience for an orphan disease drug or biotherapeutic
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability and willingness to travel overnight
  • Proximity to a major airport
  • Live within the territory
  • Ability to travel 70% or more

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working experience in ultra-rare diseases preferred
  • Background in genetics and/or mitochondrial disease
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts in 1:1 and group settings
  • Experience in partnership with Global and local therapy area experts and external organizations
  • Experience in leading without authority within matrixed environments
  • Significant experience in clinical operations and trial implementation

This position's reasonably anticipated base salary range is $156,000.00-$204,000.00 annually. The actual salary offered will take into account internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
