About the Department
Join the heart of the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine ( CVM). As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you do more than manage a space-you curate the educational foundation for the next generation of veterinarians. Serving as the primary Technical Architect for our teaching laboratories, you will ensure that every hands-on learning moment, from foundational undergraduate courses to advanced clinical interventions, is executed with precision.

Key Responsibilities



  • Curriculum Integration: Partner with faculty "Thread Leaders" to translate pedagogical goals into operational reality. You are the strategic bridge between academic intent and classroom execution.

  • Technical Sovereignty: Lead the end-to-end implementation of teaching labs. You will oversee the preparation of specialized biological specimens and the calibration of sophisticated diagnostic equipment, including our advanced microscope suites.

  • In-Lab Instructional Support: Act as a vital technical resource during live sessions, providing real-time troubleshooting and guidance to students and faculty to ensure instructional success.

  • Operational Stewardship: Own the lifecycle of the laboratory environment. This includes strategic procurement, supply chain management, and the coordination of facility upgrades and precision maintenance.

  • Safety & Compliance Leadership: Serve as the designated Safety Lead, upholding gold-standard protocols for biosafety and hazardous waste management to ensure a secure, compliant environment for the entire CVM community.

Qualifications




Minimum Experience/Education

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Some positions may require compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience performing complex data management, analysis, or research tasks using Microsoft Office tools, including advanced spreadsheet functions and literature searches.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders, such as faculty, external partners, agencies, or vendors, to support programmatic or organizational initiatives.
  • Proven ability to coordinate or support programs, projects, or outreach initiatives, including organizing activities and supervising or guiding student participation.
  • Experience working in a clinical, research, or academic environment, with familiarity in areas such as veterinary clinical pathology, microbiology, parasitology, or medical terminology.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
