Accessibility Lead, College of Graduate Arts & Sciences (CGAS)

The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences(A&S)isseeking anAccessibilityLeadtochampiondigital accessibility strategy and change management acrossone ofUVA's largest and most academically diverse schools. This role will shape how thousands of students, faculty, staff, and the broader communities they serve, experience accessible teaching, learning, and digital services.A&Shas already invested in accessibility tooling, data infrastructure, and institutional partnerships; this role willgrowthis foundationinto a mature, sustainable program withbroad impactacross the University.

We are looking for someone who brings technical fluency in accessibility standards and assistive technologies, but whosepassionis changing how people work.You'llpartner with faculty and staff across departments, academic programs, research centers, and administrative units to create lasting change by making the accessible pathanachievable path. As the program matures, thechangemanagement skills you bring will extend well beyond digital accessibility into other strategic initiatives across Arts and Sciences.

Responsibilities:

Digital Accessibility Implementation:

• WithA&SandUniversity partners, developand implement strategies to ensure digital accessibility acrossA&Splatforms and services
• Provide consultationand recommendeffective practices toa broad array ofA&Sstakeholders topromote accessible contentdevelopment
• Contribute to data analysis anddocumentation of A&Sefforts toward Digital Accessibility improvement and compliance

Change Management:

• Lead changemanagement efforts to embed accessibility, and future initiatives,intoA&Sculture and workflows, both academic and administrative
• Collaborate withA&Sstakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of accessibilityand futureinitiatives
• Design and delivereffective, targeted training programs for faculty, staff, and students

Accessible Meetings, Events, and Platforms:

• EnsureA&Smeetings and events are accessible to all participants
• Provide guidance on accessible event planning, including captioning, interpretation, materials, andstandardized design and setup of digital and physical meeting spaces
• Manage andmaintaintechnology platforms supporting space accessibility

Access-Driven Work Environment:

• Collaborate with stakeholders toidentifyand remove barriers to access
• Serve on College and institutional committees as a collaborative contributor to accessibilityefforts
• Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and legislation related to accessibility

Student Worker Management:

• Hire, train, and supervise studentworkerssupporting accessibilityinitiatives
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: 5+ years of relevant professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanceddegree
• Demonstrated knowledge of VPATs
• Technical knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScriptin relation toaccessibility compliance
• Strong understanding of accessibility standards and practices, and/ordemonstratedwillingness and strong ability to upskill rapidly
• Proficiencyin commonworkplace&instructional technologiesand accessibility testing tools

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

The anticipated hiring range is $80,000-$90,000, commensurate with education and experience.

This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days on Grounds per week, with additional on-site presence as needed, in accordance with UVA's remote work guidelines.
