The Network Administrator at California Western School of Law plays a key role in maintaining a secure, reliable, and high-performing technology environment. This position is responsible for proactively supporting and managing the institution’s on-premises and cloud-based network infrastructure, backup systems, virtualization platforms, cybersecurity monitoring, including testing and training systems and other software systems. Working collaboratively with the Support Desk team and external managed service provider (MSP) partners, the Network Administrator helps ensure seamless operations and a strong foundation for the school’s technology needsPrimary Responsibilities (includes but not limited to):Manage lifecycle operations for UPS systems across the campus, including upgrades and replacements.Manage SSL certificate deployment and updating across campus systems. Maintain clean and well-organized wiring closets and network patch panels.Manage core networking infrastructure: TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, DNS records, and DHCP.Assist with the planning, implementation, monitoring, and management of network infrastructure and operations. Report performance issues and anomalies to the IT team.Solid understanding of structured cabling standards, with experience maintaining physical network infrastructure and network patch panels.Assist with cybersecurity monitoring, threat detection, and incident remediation.Support cybersecurity awareness initiatives, including employee phishing simulations and related testing.Assist in the management and maintenance of identity systems (Active Directory and Entra ID).Support administration of server virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere).Assist and support Azure-based resources, including virtual networks, servers, databases, and storage.Provide system administration support for existing and new third-party SaaS systems.Work closely with IT colleagues to ensure a customer service–oriented approach to technical support and project execution.Participate in team meetings, technology working groups, and cross-departmental committees.Serve as a Tier 2 escalation point for network-related tickets submitted to the Service Desk.Operate with appropriate levels of guidance, autonomy, and supervision based on task complexity.Proactively communicate project progress, blockers, and opportunities for improvement to the IT team.Perform other related duties as assigned, demonstrating a team-first attitude.Minimum Qualifications:A college degree and a minimum of two (2) years of related work experience are required.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Experience in enterprise Windows-based network environments is required.Experience working in education is preferred.Candidates must be willing and able to work on a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.Demonstrated experience in managing and supporting network operations and infrastructure, including (but not limited to) servers, virtualization platforms, network operating systems, wired and wireless access, structured network cabling and wiring, and network monitoring tools.The ability to work and communicate across different departments, along with a general understanding of emerging trends in IT, is crucial.The position requires effective organizational, time-management and communication skills; as well as demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability.Experience managing IT projects is preferred.Candidates should be able to prioritize and manage a diverse set of responsibilities—balancing hands-on technical tasks with strategic planning and decision-making.Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills are also critical for success in this role.Technical Skills:Strong foundational knowledge of core networking protocols and principles: TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, DNS records, DHCP, and SMTP.Experience with SSL certificate installation and lifecycle management.Hands-on experience with wireless networking, and enterprise-grade networking systems, Cisco Meraki preferred.Proficient in administering and troubleshooting Exchange Online in a hybrid configuration preferred.Proficient in administering and troubleshooting Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID (Azure AD) Experience with PowerShell scripting Proficiency with Microsoft Visio, Excel, and the broader Office Suite.Proficient in creating and maintaining clear documentation and network diagrams, Visio preferred.Experience supporting Microsoft IIS webservers preferred.Experience with VMware vSphere and supporting VMs preferred.Experience with Microsoft Azure virtualization preferred.Experience with cybersecurity monitoring, threat detection, and incident response.Experience with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions (Veeam Backup & Replication preferred).Experience working with SAN storage systems (Dell Servers / VxRail preferred).Demonstrated aptitude for learning and adopting new technologies.Knowledge of firewall technologies (Fortinet FortiGate preferred).Compensation: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 Annual SalaryFactors in determining the appropriate compensation for this role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The higher end of the range will be considered for well qualified candidates. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the law school reasonably expects to pay for this position.
