A Brief Overview
Under the direction of the Radiology Manager and Fluoroscopy Team Leader, the Fluoroscopy Technologist I, performs a variety of diagnostic Procedures with technical expertise and competency. Understand the daily operations of all radiographic equipment and departmental flow in order to obtain optimal imaging and patient care for diagnosis and measure of disease.

What you will do

• Performs and assists in various diagnostic fluoroscopy procedures that produce optimal imaging with diagnostic quality according to the department's policy and procedures on a daily basis.
• Follows all current protocols for routine: diagnostic imaging and fluoroscopy exams, positioning, patient care and documentation as prescribed in the procedure manual set forth by the imaging department.
• Provide optimal diagnostic imaging and radiation safety for the purpose of diagnostic interpretation.
• Selects the appropriate technical factors, safety devices, and operates all imaging equipment as directed
• Maintains constant attention to patient assigned to the technologist.
• Operates Routine fluoroscopic equipment according to department policy and procedure.
• Adheres to federal and state radiation safety guidelines and regulations regarding patient and operator protection, collimation, and shielding.
• Ensures dosimetry badge is worn 100% of the time outside his/her thyroid shield while he/she is working in the imaging department.
• Ensures radiation protection on all patients by using lead shields, lead aprons, and gonadal shields.
• Provides and supports interdepartmental teamwork set forth by the radiology administrator.
• Coordinates and help support the needs of the other modalities, and CHOP Healthcare Network to provide effective patient care and service.
• Ensure open communication with nursing staff, etc.
• Document and communicate patient information to staff members, physicians, referring services and nursing care units.
• Orient new staff technologists, physicians and students.
• Provide Call coverage for off- hours emergency cases and holidays.
• Ensure the safety and inspection of all lead apron testing for the Radiology Department and other services.
• Adheres to federal and state radiation safety guidelines and regulations regarding patient and operator protection, collimation, and shielding.
• Ensures dosimeter badge is worn while he/she is working in the imaging department.
• Document and record the (DAP) Dose Area Product
• Provide radiation protection in accordance with all safety standards and the principle of ALARA to ensure the wellbeing of patients, hospital personnel, and the general public and while performing any duties.
• Maintains workstation area and equipment.
• Ensures that all emergency equipment and specialized equipment is checked daily and record books maintained as necessary.
• Ensures that the room is checked on initial use for safety.
• Ensures the equipment is functioning before start of procedure.
• Ensures that supplies are available and ready for use before shift begins
• In conjunction with SPD, will take inventory weekly and make appropriate arrangements to replenish supplies 100% of the time.
• Ensures that after the end of shift, work area will be returned to readiness and an acceptable level of cleanliness.
• Ensures all radiographic equipment is turned off at end of shift and plugged in if applicable.
• Responsible for maintaining the continuing education required for this position
• Complete all hospital and Radiology Department mandatory education are required annually.
• Obtains 6 CE credits/year for ARRT Compliance, and 6 CE Credits of which are offered through CHOP Radiology Initiatives.
• Completes training and in-services presentations required for the Diagnostic Department
• Orient and train all Radiology students, new employees
• Responsible for maintaining the continuing education required for this position.
• Complete mandatory education on-line tutorials 100% of the time.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED - Required
• Technical Diploma Accredited Radiologic Technologist Program Required - Required

Experience Qualifications

• At least one (1) year Diagnostic Radiology - Preferred
• At least one (1) year Pediatric experience - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Radiography - American Registry for Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) - within 12 months - Required and
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 12 months - Required
