This role sits within the Global Risk Management group (GRM), which supports and reports directly to the AES Global Chief Risk Officer. GRM has two primary objectives. First, it ensures that robust controls are in place to validate that material risks are being managed in accordance with executive directives. Second, it equips the executive team with highquality insight into the uncertainty surrounding forwardlooking earnings and cashflow estimates, including key drivers and potential mitigation strategies. This role reports to the Director of Global Risk & Analytics within GRM, who is accountable for delivering on the second objective and supporting the broader organization in achieving the first, in conjunction with risk management teams embededd in AES's portfolio of business units (Local Risk Teams). The market-facing Senior Risk Analyst is a key resource on this team, contributing to our success in delivering on business-as-usual responsibilities; maintaining our positive relationships with local teams, building knowledge, documentation, modeling, and validation of our most complex positions; and bridging the knowledge gap between market and technical expertise required to continue building out our proprietary risk analytics platform. This is an exciting role with a significant opportunity to make an impact! Primary Responsibilities: *Partner with local commercial & risk teams across our global portfolio to facilitate timely and comprehensive sharing of information related to local markets, assets, transactions, and drivers of financial uncertainty. *Collaborate with these teams to better understand and document specific market, asset, product, or transaction details that drive changes in expected earnings and cash flows for the AES portfolio. *Assist in developing excel-based models to estimate expected earnings and cash flows for these positions based on the facts of the position, and how those will change with changes in uncertain inputs. From these develop visualizations to assist in explaining and validating the impact of changes in uncertain inputs to earnings or cash flows. Then assist in reviewing the fact-based models results with how positions have been modeled into our energy trading & risk management and risk analytics systems, document and share findings. *As necessary, assist in designing, prototyping, and validating SQL and / or python-based models for valuing positions based on changing inputs, and for visualizing the results. Others on our team will then have responsibility for integrating your work into our global analytics platform where it will contribute to an improved estimation of, and insight into uncertainty surrounding forwardlooking earnings and cashflow estimates used by our executive leadership team to make high-value decisions. *Support GRM business-as-usual analysis and reporting activities aimed at estimating, monitoring, analyzing, explaining, and gleaning insights from changes in uncertainty around our forward-looking earnings and cash flow forecasts. *Support GRM efforts to improve its efficiency in delivering on its primary objectives as outlined above. *Assist in responding to ad-hoc requests for information, analysis, or explanations related to GRM responsibilities or as requested by the CRO. Requirements Qualifications: *3+ years of relevant industry experience. *Degree in a relevant quantitative field (e.g., Financial Mathematics, Econometrics) *Demonstrated knowledge of spot and forward energy markets, fundamental drivers of changes in expected forward-looking earnings and cash-flows for portfolios comprised of thermal and renewable generation assets, structured transactions, and standard hedging products. *Demonstrated knowledge of risk management concepts including valuation, delta/gamma position definitions, uncertainty vs risk, and how to operationalize those via mathematical models, statistics, percentile analysis, risk simulation, and metric calculations, specifically for Value-At-Risk type risk metrics. *Experience implementing the above as re-usable tools using excel/VBA and either SQL or Python and developing data visualizations for the inputs and outputs. *Sufficient technical skills to contribute to the design and implementation of automated processes to support the analytical requirements for this role (Excel / VBA for user interface, SQL for data acquisition, VBA or Python for process automation, Excel or Power BI for presentation layer). *Experience analyzing nightly valuation outputs from an ETRM system (ideally Allegro) to summarize changes in value, position, prices, and / or risk metrics. *Demonstrated ability to clearly present and explain the above to different audiences with widely varying subject matter expertise. *Demonstrated ability to balance between individual vs collaborative problem-solving based on deliverable requirements. *Individual approach for tracking and managing competing tasks, proactively clarifying priorities, asking questions, communicating issues or delays, and managing upward expectations to deliver results that meet or exceed expectations in terms of quality and timeliness. Nice to have: *Familiarity with working in Google Cloud Services / Big Query *Allegro-Specific ETRM experience *Experience working with ZEMA / Morningstar *Knowledge of Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South American power markets. *Bi-lingual (English / Spanish) AES is an Equal Opportunity Employer who is committed to building strength and delivering long-term sustainability through diversity and inclusion.
