Summary:
The Dermatology Mohs Technician role is responsible for processing, embedding, cutting and staining high quality frozen tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation and review by the physician/advanced practice practitioner.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: 60 semester hours including 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses (6 hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology, or any combination preferred. Proof of training in a certified program in Mohs tissue processing and/or significant work history as a Mohs Laboratory Technician required. Graduation from an accredited vocational institution or community college in Medical Assisting with 160 hours of clinical experience completed; or completion of an Adult Education Medical Assistant program and 6 months of clinical experience in a practice setting; or 1 year of clinical experience in a multi-provider practice setting preferred (equivalent experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis).
  2. License/Certifications: Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, or NCCT certification preferred. Current BLS certification required or must obtain within one month of start date.
  3. Experience: One year of experience as the primary Mohs Laboratory Technician required. Two years of Medical Assistant or Surgical Technologist experience preferred. Dermatology experience preferred.
