Overview

The Sr Specialist will be part of a team guiding the development of a comprehensive, proactive, and risk-adjusted distribution load relief planning strategy through analytics. Responsibilities include supporting analysis of area station load curves, modeling impacts of flexible demand resources and customer programs such as demand response, managed charging, and battery storage, and developing tools to do so. The Sr Specialist will work on projects modeling future high renewables penetration scenarios and the role of batteries to support bulk system resource adequacy needs and their impact on distribution system capacity. Through this role, the Sr Specialist will inform business decisions through data-driven analytical work and will support implementation of new and existing grid planning processes in coordination with engineering, forecasting, and customer program teams across the Company. Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Perform analyses and develop analytical tools in coordination with Demand Management, Storage, E-Mobility, and DG teams to determine best pricing signals, programs, and/or use cases to incentivize DER developers to interconnect in areas of highest value to the grid, developers, and customers.
  • Work with cross-departmental teams and integrate datasets to produce analytical insights for distribution and area station planning needs
  • Develop and maintain models and automated tools in Excel and other analytical software
  • Perform studies on DER use cases for high penetration renewables firming on the distribution system
  • Develop analyses and load curve datasets to optimize call windows for programs and tariffs
  • Model end state building electrification load densities
  • Assess strategies for beneficial battery dispatch
  • Gather and synthesize data from various sources (e.g., forecasts, AMI, SQL databases, customer billing and information systems)
  • Analyze customer programs and flexible demand management strategies to mitigate or defer the need for system reinforcements
  • Prepare documentation of methodologies, processes, and results in slide decks, process documents, job aids, and email communications.
  • Develop reports, slides, and data visualizations to communicate key findings to management and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Science, Economics, Information Technology, Business, Environmental Studies, or related field and 3 years relevant work experience or
  • Master's Degree Engineering, Science, Economics, Information Technology, Business, Environmental Studies, or related field and 2 years relevant work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities. Provide exemplary customer service to supporting teams and organizations. Required
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, flexible to handle multiple assignments and projects, able to implement process improvements, and able to meet deadlines. Required
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in gathering and interpreting data. Required
  • Strong knowledge of computer applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Required
  • Good communication, negotiation, and organizational skills and accountability. Required
  • Proficiency in Excel, Python or R, SQL, for business analytics. Preferred
  • Relevant work experience, including technical knowledge of Con Edison's electrical system, energy storage systems, project management, and construction. Preferred
  • Relevant experience and knowledge on forecasting, demand management programs, and capital deferment mechanisms. Preferred

  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to travel to various company locations as needed.
