The Team:

The Model Shop team supports the development of innovative toy concepts and product experiences by creating high-quality physical models, prototypes, and presentation materials. The team partners closely with design, engineering, packaging, and brand teams to bring ideas to life through a wide range of fabrication technologies and traditional modelmaking techniques.

The Opportunity:

Mattel is currently seeking a Model Shop Technician to join the Model Shop team in El Segundo, CA. This role supports modelmaking, fabrication, tool crib operations, and multiple rapidprototyping processes used throughout the product development lifecycle. The Model Shop Technician will assist with creating physical models and prototypes, maintaining equipment and tools, and supporting fabrication technologies including 3D printing, machining, mold making, and finishing processes.

What Your Impact Will Be:

  • Support the creation of detailed physical models and prototypes using a variety of materials and fabrication techniques.
  • Assist with operation, postprocessing, and maintenance of 3D printing and rapid prototyping equipment.
  • Prepare molds and support casting processes including mixing, pouring, and finishing cast components.
  • Operate manual and CNC machining equipment to fabricate precision components.
  • Support finishing processes including sanding, painting, and surface treatments.
  • Operate laser cutting and vinyl cutting equipment to fabricate parts, decals, and signage.
  • Assist in creating packaging comps used for presentations, trade shows, and sales meetings.
  • Maintain tool crib inventory including organizing tools and managing checkout procedures.
  • Support copper plating and other specialized fabrication processes.
  • Perform routine shop maintenance to maintain a safe and organized workspace.

What We're Looking For:

Basic Qualifications

  • Completion of or enrollment in a relevant trade school, apprenticeship, or equivalent handson experience.
  • Experience with fabrication processes such as 3D printing, machining, mold making, casting, or finishing.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce highquality work under deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to learn new tools, materials, and fabrication technologies.
  • Demonstrated agrowth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD or digital sculpting software such as Creo, SolidWorks, Rhino, ZBrush, or Freeform.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, ArtiosCAD, or similar software.
  • Experience working in a model shop, fabrication lab, or prototyping environment.
