Metrais one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

The Asset Management and Supply Chain Operation Division consists of all Storehouse and Warehouse Operations, Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), and Transit Asset Management (TAM). The purpose of the department is to service various customers within Metra. Managing the continuous supply of parts materials and services required to support Engineering, Mechanical and Transit Operations. The department operates Metra's four storehouses and one central warehouse. Additionally, the department manages the agency's Transit Asset Management (TAM) program and the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems.

Reporting to the Sr Manager, Asset Data Systems, the Manager, Asset Data Systems, in collaboration with the Information Technology department and system software hosting teams, will coordinate and manage asset data processes and systems for various areas within the agency (e.g. Capital Projects Delivery, Engineering, Facilities, and Mechanical) including implementations and upgrades; and assist with building parallel data structures compatible with existing asset management tools, systems, and programs to track and monitor agency assets.

The primary duties include: Manage an assigned team of analysts and specialists responsible for asset data systems; collaborate with departments to identify business requirements for commuter rail asset management, mapping, and development and implementation of processes and procedures for data collection and analysis. Provide day-to-day oversight, guidance, and operational support on the use of the enterprise asset management (EAM) software, upgrades, and integration processes; review data for accuracy; monitor collection processes and procedures; and conduct testing to ensure integrity and the successful transfer and mapping of data. Collect and analyze commuter rail asset data and system configuration changes for designated areas; coordinate project tasks; review work queues; and ensure system training initiatives are implemented and delivered to all users. Work collaboratively with Information Technology (IT) and software host teams on data analytics and the development of tools, methods, and system infrastructures needed to track and integrate asset data. Perform on-going data system optimization for assigned areas; function as lead on projects involving data integration, management, updates, and program enhancements; and successfully complete assigned projects. Approve time off, coordinate staff schedules, fill vacancies as necessary, and ensure compliance with departmental and company policies and objectives. Decide/implement staffing decisions, performance evaluations, and performance improvement, disciplinary, and/or termination procedures. Make recommendations regarding hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary and/or termination procedures. Works under both inside and outside environmental conditions under prevailing conditions of heat, cold, rain, and snow. Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Asset Management, Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline OR in lieu of a specified degree, any combination of education and experience that equals four (4) years in asset management or program administration, preferably in the railroad or transportation industry.
  2. In addition to number #1, must have a six (6) years of experience in business systems operation, asset management, and configuration management, preferably in the railroad or transportation industry. Three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
  3. Working knowledge of EAM software programs, e.g. IBM Maximo, Service Max, or similar programs.
  4. Working knowledge of workforce planning or timekeeping systems, e.g. Kronos or similar systems.
  5. Knowledge of ERP systems with interface capabilities (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar systems).
  6. Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Access) with the ability to create and manipulate data tables.
  7. Strong analytical skills.
  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
  9. Ability to react to priority adjustments and changes promptly and efficiently.
  10. Ability to lead cross functional teams, develop key relationships, and work independently and in a team environment.
  11. Ability to assume immediate responsibility for coordinating and maintaining implementation of new systems.
  12. Ability to develop workflow processes, tracking tools, and model data.
  13. Ability to troubleshoot data issues and determine root causes of problems and defects.
  14. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  15. Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit, for extended periods of time.
  16. Must be able to operate a vehicle.
  17. Must be available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.

Preferred:

  1. Experience with data collection and working with EAM software.
