Kleinschmidt has a full-time opening for a Structural Engineer to perform technical design and support hydroelectric, fisheries, and water resources projects out of Portland, Oregon or Redmond, Washington office, with opportunity to serve in technical structural lead and project management roles based on experience. Our flexibility and core value of relationships allow us to offer employees the opportunity to work in an office or a hybrid arrangement. This position requires two days in-office.

Salary: $82,000-$130,000/year (based on experience)

Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (concentration in Structural Engineering).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or able to obtain an engineering license within a year.
  • 3-10 years of experience in Structural Engineering.
  • Knowledge of standards and codes applicable to the structural engineering discipline.
  • Ability to independently perform analysis and design of concrete and steel structures and develop design drawings packages and technical specifications.
  • Ability to function and show flexibility on project teams to complete a diverse range of tasks and manage priorities of self and others in complex, demanding situations.
  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills and oral and written communication skills for internal and external communication, proposal writing and technical memos.
  • Experience with coordinating with multi-disciplines and junior and/or senior staff.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with design and construction of hydroelectric, fisheries related, or water resource projects.
  • Experience in management of staff, projects, and client relationships.
  • Experience with the field support of construction projects.
  • Specialty experience within the structural engineering discipline, such as seismic design, finite element modeling (RISA 3D or SAP2000), AutoCAD, Revit.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes.


Additional Requirements



  • Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States and able to acquire authorization to work in Canada.
  • Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license.

Our Process

Kleinschmidt strives to provide a great candidate experience. After careful review of resumes, we will notify those we are interested in interviewing. We may ask for more details with an initial screening. Our process normally involves two interviews. The top candidate will then be asked to provide 2-3 references and offered a benefits call, a unique step in our process where we describe our full benefits package.
