Senior Project Controls Analyst (Contract)
Location: Fresno, CA (Hybrid - Local Candidates Only)
Duration: 12 Months
Schedule: 40 hours/week | Standard Work Week
Travel: 2-4 days per month (office or field visits)
Position Overview
The Senior Project Controls Analyst supports Electric Operations by leading project scheduling, cost control, forecasting, and financial performance reporting for transmission and distribution initiatives. This role partners closely with Project Managers, engineering, construction, finance, and operations teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
This position requires strong
Primavera P6 scheduling expertise and a deep understanding of
Project Controls Analyst (PCA) roles and responsibilities within a utility environment.
Key Responsibilities
Schedule Development & Analysis
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 (Maxavera), MS Project, SAP Project Systems, and SAP Work Management.
- Partner with Project Managers to create schedule and cash flow/forecast plans.
- Attend job kickoff and site walk-down meetings.
- Track milestones, identify risks, and communicate schedule variances.
- Collect progress data and update plans accordingly.
- Perform schedule analysis and recommend corrective actions.
Cost Planning & Forecasting
- Develop, maintain, and update monthly forecast budgets.
- Perform cost variance analysis and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Prepare cost performance, schedule status, and forecast reports.
- Support GRC/FERC cost inquiries with accurate financial data.
- Process journal entries and goods receipts in SAP.
- Maintain Project Manager order groups and financial tracking logs.
Project Documentation & Compliance
- Manage project documentation in EDMS and other systems.
- Maintain logs for scope changes, contingency releases, change orders, and journal entries.
- Ensure compliance with Utility Operations policies and standards.
- Assist with Advance Authorizations, Job Estimates, and Re-Authorizations.
- Support project closeout and Post Job Critique processes.
Financial & Performance Management
- Prepare weekly and monthly performance reports (budget, cycle forecast, scorecards).
- Monitor forecasting accuracy using SAP/BW and financial tracking tools.
- Provide financial analysis and explanations of key cost drivers.
- Support department-wide performance reporting and process improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment on forecast data.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent education and experience).
- One of the following:
- 5+ years as a Project Controls Analyst
- 7+ years of Client operations experience
- 8+ years of related external experience
- CAPM or PMP Certification.
- Strong Primavera P6 scheduling expertise.
- Advanced knowledge of Project Controls practices in a utility or construction environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SAP Work Management, Controlling Orders, Planning Orders, BW, and Analysis for Office.
- Experience in Project Management, Project Controls, or Construction Management.
- Risk Management and Earned Value Analysis (EVM) experience.
- Strong accounting and budgeting knowledge.
- Advanced Excel and Access proficiency.
- Familiarity with Unifier, ProjectWise, and/or HeavyBid.
