The Director, Product Strategy is a strategic leader responsible for defining long-term product vision, driving initiatives that support business objectives, and continuously improving customer and partner experiences in FNBO's Partnership division. This role requires strategic thinking, strong abilities to influence, and rigorous prioritization practices to deliver optimized business value in a regulated banking environment.
The Director, Product Strategy will set the strategic direction and priorities for key investment areas such as Customer Experience, Onboarding, and Partner Growth, and will collaborate with Product Owners to prepare strategies for delivery. The ideal candidate has experience conducting extensive market research within the credit card and lending industry and analyzing feedback to identify opportunities for innovation.
About This Role: Product Strategy and Roadmap
- Create product strategy and long-term roadmap aligned with business goals and objectives.
- Refine and validate business cases with business stakeholders, quantify problem statements and measure business impact.
- Develop compelling value propositions for roadmap initiatives, gain stakeholder support across Partner Management, Customer Management, IT, Legal, Risk, Business Development, Finance, and Operations.
- Make build vs buy decisions and evaluate strategic partnerships. Present recommendations with data insights and strategic rationale.
- Support Product Owners by providing stakeholder air cover and strategic context, building trust with Agile teams to make day-to-day execution decisions within strategic guardrails.
Discovery & Market Research
- Lead rigorous discovery processes evaluating desirability, maintainability, and compliance.
- Make thoughtful and data-based decisions regarding priority tradeoffs and high-level scope.
- Collaborate closely with business leaders and decision-makers to validate product strategies and ensure roadmap is positioned to solve business problems and deliver meaningful outcomes.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the credit card and lending industry, including credit card networks, regulatory requirements, and emerging technology trends.
- Conduct thorough market research and analyze competitor offerings to identify opportunities for product enhancements and innovation.
Journey Excellence & Product Optimization
- Own end-to-end customer and cobrand partner journey optimization.
- Champion a user-centric approach to design and development ensuring that disparate development efforts maintain a cohesive and seamless experience.
- Propose innovative and strategic opportunities for maximizing adoption and performance of products and capabilities.
- Establish journey baseline metrics such as completion rates, NPS, customer effort score, and drop-off points. Conduct regular performance reviews of key product metrics and business outcomes.
- Prioritize journey improvements based on customer and partner feedback, business impact, and strategic alignment.
Experimentation & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with Research and Design team(s) to establish feedback collection across multiple channels: surveys, advisory boards, support ticket analysis, session replay tools.
- Build instrumentation strategy with real-time dashboards tracking journey health.
- Document before-and-after results with learnings for each improvement initiative.
- Create an improvement rhythm for appropriate frequency of reviewing metrics, taking deep-dives into performance, partner reviews, journey/product-market-fit evaluations.
- Track action items in product backlog and close the feedback loop
Product & Delivery Collaboration
- Provide clear direction and well-defined success criteria for product and delivery teams to make effective decisions. Maintain alignment on prioritization and delivery progress throughout the Product Delivery Lifecycle.
- Create opportunity for Product Owners to make autonomous decisions and have stake in ownership of solutioning within strategic guardrails. Share accountability for delivery outcomes and business results.
- Coach and guide Product colleagues in product management best practices by driving consistency and discipline in product methodology, backlog development, definition of done, stakeholder management and go to market activities.
The Ideal Candidate for This Role:
- 7 + years proven experience in product management within the banking or financial services industry. Credit card, payment processing, or consumer lending experience highly preferred.
- Ability to work in large and medium sized project teams, as self-directed contributor with a proven track record of being detail orientated, innovative, creative, and strategic.
- Influencer with great interpersonal skills and proven ability to achieve alignment across a range of different views and interests.
- Excellent communicator able to convey complex information in an understandable, compelling, and persuasive manner.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a related field. MBA is a plus.
Candidates must possess unrestricted work authorization and not require future sponsorship.
Compensation:
Compensation range (base pay): $97,774.00-$166,216.00
This role may have a specific starting pay within this range. Final compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level. Work Environment:
