Job Announcement

Under agency direction, prioritizes and responds to user requests providing guidance and assistance. Assists with Active Directory OU administration. Provides basic one-on-one training to users. Assists with problem determination and resolution. Performs installation and configuration of hardware, software, and peripherals. Assists in managing network system upgrades and equipment exchanges as part of the PC replacement program. Reviews new technology and upgrades and makes recommendations on system modifications. Assists in recommending ways to improve efficiencies through automation. Under the direction and general supervision of the Network/Telecom Analyst (NTA) III, develops written material to present information including data trends, responds to inquiries, and prepares correspondence, letters, and memoranda for supervisor's review, maintains accurate records, and continuously updates agency hardware inventory and software compliance. Transports IT equipment in agency-assigned vehicle to offsite locations to install electronic equipment and/or perform various troubleshooting functions, as needed. Collaboratively work with NTA II and III positions to cross-train support functions and provide basic backup, as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Performs cable routing and termination, equipment installation and configuration, labeling, and documentation;
  • Provides routine support for network and/or telecommunications functions;
  • Responds to and prioritizes requests from users to provide guidance and assistance;
  • Adds/deletes users;
  • Proposes, develops, and implements documentation and procedures for determining and/or preventing problems;
  • Assists the help desk in problem determination and solution;
  • Sets up, installs, and tests hardware and peripherals at user sites;
  • Installs network operating system and standard programs;
  • Assists in the installation of more complex software and equipment;
  • Provides basic one-on-one training to users;
  • Maintains system records and documentation;
  • Participates in managing network/telecommunication system upgrades, expansions, and equipment exchange;
  • Reviews new technology and upgrades and makes recommendations on network/telecommunication system modifications;
  • Maintains an inventory list of agency hardware and software;
  • Provides assistance to other staff as needed.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Some knowledge of data and voice communications protocol and industry standards such as internet, intranet, internet security, frame relay, and data network;
  • Some knowledge of communications network management and router configuration;
  • Some knowledge of hardware and software, cabling, power requirements, ancillary equipment, and the like related to network operations and telecommunications systems;
  • Understands the PC in a network environment;
  • Understands the network environment and its operation;
  • Ability to install system hardware and software;
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate, and manage studies, special projects and assignments;
  • Ability to evaluate and make recommendations on different applications software packages;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally; and in writing;
  • Ability to assist users in solving systems problems;
  • Ability to translate technical terminology into terms understandable to management and employees;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective business relationships.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of an associate degree in computer science, electrical engineering, electronics, or a related field; plus, two years network and/or telecommunications experience; or a bachelor's degree in such fields.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, driving record check, polygraph exam, and psychological exam to the satisfaction of the employer.

This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)

Additional Work Schedule Requirements: Overtime may be required. Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as necessitated to support urgent requests and emergency support operations. Rotating on call schedule.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in any of the following areas:
    • Routine support for network and telecommunications functions.
    • Prioritize and provide user support in solving problems.
    • Problem determination and resolution.
    • Equipment installation and configuration including hardware, software, and peripherals.
    • Maintain inventory.
    • Maintain system records and documentation.
    • User training.
  • Effective verbal and written communications
  • Customer service orientation.
  • 5 - 7 years of network experience and troubleshooting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Able to use hands, able to sit, able to lift computer parts and various types of hardware to include video cameras and storage devices. Must be able to lift 60 pounds, stoop, bend, reach and twist. Must be able to maneuver around office equipment, telephone closets, cabling and conduits to effectively perform job functions. Must be able to communicate orally and in writing. Must be capable of using computer equipment and tools necessary to complete job assigned. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
