Staff Software Engineer, Lakehouse Data Platform

Procore
United States, Texas, Austin
221 West 6th Street (Show on map)
Apr 06, 2026

We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join Procore's Product & Technology Team. Procore software solutions aim to improve the lives of everyone in construction and the people within Product & Technology are the driving force behind our innovative, top-rated global platform. We're a customer-centric group that encompasses engineering, product, product design and data, security and business systems.

You'll join the team that owns Procore's real-time streaming data platform, the infrastructure that moves events across the company at scale. You'll combine deep technical expertise with a bias for action to push the platform forward, designing and building the systems that improve reliability, unlock scale, and make streaming infrastructure easier for every engineer at Procore to use. If you love solving hard distributed systems problems and building things that other engineers depend on, this role is for you.

This role reports to a Senior Engineering Manager and is a hybrid role based in Austin.

What you'll do:

  • At Procore, AI isn't a specialized tool, it's a core competency. We expect every team member to be AI-literate, leveraging generative tools and agentic workflows to move faster and work smarter. You won't just use AI; you'll be building the agentic future of construction.

  • Design, build, and evolve resilient streaming data infrastructure (Kafka, schema registry, connectors) and the self-service capabilities engineers depend on, hardening the platform for security, usability, and scalability so engineering teams across Procore can produce and consume events with confidence.

  • Build observability capabilities that give both the platform team and its consumers clear visibility into the health and performance of their streaming workloads, and establish the standards that enable proactive issue detection and resolution.

  • Drive AI enablement across the stack, both to accelerate the team's own delivery and to create capabilities that consumers can leverage.

  • Help establish the streaming team as Procore's subject-matter experts on event-driven architecture, contributing to data strategy decisions that extend beyond the platform itself.

  • Set and maintain high standards for system design, code reviews, and incident response, reinforcing a culture of engineering excellence.

  • Support on-call duties and production operations while actively creating systems and processes that reduce the need for manual intervention over time.

What we're looking for:

  • A builder's mindset. You're energized by solving hard problems, and you measure success by the impact your work has on other engineers and the platform.

  • 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with expert-level skills in system design, testing, and operating reliable services. Platform engineering or infrastructure background is a plus.

  • Experience with event streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Kafka Connect, or similar) is strongly preferred, including familiarity with core concepts (topics, partitions, consumer groups, schema evolution) and the operational challenges of running them at scale.

  • A genuine interest in AI-assisted development and demonstrated experience using AI tools to increase engineering velocity and output quality.

  • Solid communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across time zones and with cross-functional partners on a globally distributed team.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), IaC tools (e.g., Terraform), and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) is a plus.
