Posting Summary
The Rutgers Center for State Health Policy (Center/ CSHP) within the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research ( IFH), a unit of Rutgers Health, is recruiting up to two non-tenure-track, research faculty. The position is open rank, with appointment at either the Assistant or Associate Research Professor level, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Research priorities for these faculty include strategies to enhance the quality of life for autistic individuals throughout their lifespan, with a significant emphasis on understanding and reducing disparities in access, resources and outcomes and will explore the service needs, patterns of insurance coverage, and other social determinants of health, among individuals with intellectual disability, autism, and mental health conditions.
The NTT faculty hired under this recruitment will contribute to the Center's advancing autism and intellectual disabilities research portfolio, under the leadership of the incoming Center Director, Dr. Lindsay Shea. The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable for annual or multi-year periods, depending on productivity, overall performance, and continued availability of funding. These positions are co-terminus with funding for the positions.
Duties of the Position:

  • Conduct high-impact, policy-relevant research on autism and intellectual disabilities, including examining disparities in access, quality, and outcomes, and advancing knowledge of community functioning, service use, and quality of life for autistic individuals. Incumbents in this position will be expected to serve as principal or co-principal investigator on projects and assume analytic leadership roles on projects.
  • Contribute to the analytic development of new proposals and funding opportunities, including from federal, state, city and foundation sources that align with existing and emerging research priority areas related to populations with developmental disabilities and other groups covered by the Medicaid program.
  • Lead development of rigorous, peer reviewed publications and engage in the translation and dissemination of research findings for broad constituencies and stakeholder groups.
  • Contribute to the mentorship of students, fellows and staff within CSHP and IFH, providing guidance on mixed methods and other advanced research techniques and engage in general academic service activities within CSHP, IFH and the University community, at large.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD, or equivalent) in a field relevant to health policy, health services research, demography, psychology, social work, public health, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated track record of exceptional research, as evidenced by publications, grants, and other scholarly achievements, appropriate to the stage of the candidate's career.
  • Demonstrated expertise in research focused on populations with autism and other intellectual disabilities.


Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability and desire to grow and thrive in a mission-driven collegial academic environment.

About the Center for State Health Policy
Rutgers Center for State Health Policy (Center/ CSHP) is an initiative within the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, which is part of Rutgers Health. Established in 1999 with major funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Center combines Rutgers University's traditional academic strengths in public health, health services research, and social science with applied research and policy analysis initiatives. The Center was conceived in response to the unique and essential role of the states in the formation and implementation of sound health policy.
The Center is home to 27 full-time employees and will be welcoming Dr. Lindsay Shea as its new director in July 2026, succeeding Founding Director Joel Cantor. The Center's signature areas of research include Health Care Access and Coverage, Health and Long-Term Care Workforce, Health System Performance Improvement, Long-Term Services and Supports, and Population Health.
Within this core portfolio, CSHP marshals the expert resources of its team of multidisciplinary faculty and staff to:

  • Conduct rigorous, timely, and impartial research on health policy issues;
  • Provide objective and practical evaluation of programs and policy choices;
  • Convene the health policy community in a neutral forum to promote an active exchange of ideas on critical issues;
  • Educate current and future health policy makers, researchers, and administrators; and
  • Promote the practical application of scholarship in health policy.
