Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The CIPP General Superintendent manages daily field activities by ensuring the project is constructed in accordance with safety, design, budget, and schedule standards. The General Superintendent also directly manages the Field staff in Veit's CIPP division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Daily communication with Project Managers regarding job-specific needs, including workforce and equipment requirements.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings to discuss project start-up and project planning.
  • Prepares for and participates in regular job site meetings throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review plans and specifications, perform on-site bid walks, determine shot sequencing, and participate in bid reviews.
  • Schedules subcontractors to complete work as needed and monitors subcontractor work to ensure completion per agreement.

Field Supervision & Workforce Management

  • Daily contact with job site crews to ensure project time schedules and workforce needs are being met.
  • Manages field personnel in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Addresses staff performance issues as they occur.
  • Supports training opportunities for staff.
  • Work with various residents impacted by projects

Safety Management

  • Maintains a safe working environment by identifying workplace hazards and taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensure employees have up-to-date information on safety procedures and policies.
  • Conducts daily Job Hazard Awareness meetings, daily stretching, and weekly Toolbox topics.
  • Provides timely and accurate documentation for reporting safety issues, equipment damage, and workplace injuries according to company policies and procedures.
  • Regular participation in training for construction methods and safety.

Quality Control

  • Ensure all work follows specified quality standards.
  • Inspects field work for quality compliance and materials for adherence to standards.
  • Reviews assembly of manufacturer's literature and drawings before work begins.
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Completes daily record keeping, including daily logs, equipment schedules, material schedules, and timecards.
  • Provides accurate documentation related to safety, equipment damage, and workplace incidents.

Stakeholder & Customer Relations

  • Responds to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Superintendent or Foreman overseeing CIPP projects.
  • Excavation Safety and Blueprint Reading certifications required
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting policies, plans, specifications, reports, and legal documents.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, as well as iPad and iPhone use.
  • Knowledgeable in HCSS Software.
  • Able to effectively communicate and coordinate project schedules and needs.
  • Communicate professionally with employees at all levels, management, vendors, and external partners; comfortable speaking to individuals and groups; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Apply mathematical concepts, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, to field measurements and quantities.
  • Capable of identifying problems, gathering information, analyzing data, and drawing sound conclusions; able to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and work with both abstract and concrete variables.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • CDL license
  • OSHA 30-hour certification
  • Knowledge of traffic control plan software

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads safety initiatives across CIPP.
  • Provides leadership and supervision to field personnel in a fair and equitable manner, adhering to company policies and procedures and complying with local and federal laws.
  • Oversee, mentor, and develop staff by providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure high levels of efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Hires, trains, develops, and reviews all direct reports, taking disciplinary action when necessary and in a timely manner, in accordance with company policy.

OTHER:

  • This is a safety-sensitive role. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be willing to travel 75-100% throughout MN.
  • Nightshift and weekend work required, depending on project needs
  • Union affiliation or willingness to join the union is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by any employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing job duties, the employee frequently communicates with coworkers and clients and must exchange accurate information. Additional responsibilities include: standing or sitting in a stationary position for long periods, more than 50% of the time; using a computer or laptop in an office setting with natural or fluorescent lighting; moving between floors in an office building; regularly attending off-site meetings or events; and lifting to 50 lbs. unassisted. Employees must also be able to navigate active construction sites and operate or demonstrate heavy equipment safely.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment described here reflects what employees may encounter while performing their essential job functions. Employees are exposed to environmental conditions, working near machinery, and loud noises typical of construction sites. Personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and hearing or respiratory protection, will be provided and must be worn as required. They may also experience variable weather conditions, including rain, snow, wind, cold, and heat. Additionally, they are exposed to uneven terrain. There is exposure to moving machinery, loud noises, odors, and dust. Hearing and eye protection are supplied. They may also be occasionally exposed to electrical hazards.

The base salary range may vary depending on geographic location, applicant skills, and prior relevant experience.
