Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for an Oncology RN to support our office in Norfolk.

Responsibilities

Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.

    • Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history.
    • Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material.
    • Provides psychosocial support to patients and families.

Facilitates clinical operations and patient care

    • Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and records the information in the patient chart.
    • Assists physician with exams and procedures.
    • Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
    • As necessary, facilitates communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinates services related to patient care.
    • Assist patients in locating available community resources.
    • Traveling to satellite clinic 1-2 days per week to extend care across our network.
    • Occasionally, administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other treatments with precision and adherence to safety protocols.
    • Performing clinical procedures such as port flushes, dressing changes, injections, and catheterizations.

Inter professional collaboration:

    • Acts as a resource to LPNs, medical assistants, and other.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education required; BSN preferred
  • Oncology experience strongly preferred
  • Current RN state license required
  • Current BCLS certification required
  • OCN certification preferred
  • Must be willing to travel between offices as needed

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
