1st Shift Maintenance Apprentice - Up to $21/hr based on experience

84 Lumber is looking for a maintenance apprentice to join our team! Ideal candidates should have consistent attendance, have 1-3 years of mechanical experience, and be a self-starter that works autonomously. This position will have training, leadership, and assistance from a 1st shift lead maintenance technician and will have a regional supervisor that helps as well; this is a great opportunity for those looking to start a career within a stable and supportive company!

We offer a competitive benefits package, and the pay range is based on skill set. Applicants will be expected to take an on-site written skills assessment that will help us understand applicant skills and training opportunities. If you're interested in joining the team and growing with us, we'd love to talk to you!

Applicants should:

  • Be safety-minded. We expect all employees to follow all safety procedures, including Lock-Out.
  • Have great attendance and reliable transportation. We don't run a large team, so unexpected absences are especially challenging for us.
  • Not take shortcuts. We are heavily focused on proper repairs instead of band-aid fixes.
  • Be willing to take in-house training courses as necessary.
  • Have good communication with management via phone, text, and email.
  • Be comfortable using computers to complete work orders, read parts manuals, use email, etc.
  • Be able to lift and move 50 lbs.
  • Be able to operate a forklift and be willing to operate a boom or scissor lift (training provided).
  • Be comfortable working indoors and outdoors (primarily indoors).
  • Work autonomously - complete work via a digital work order system, repair minor/moderate machine issues, complete PMs, keep the shop clean, etc.

Skills required for success:

  • Mechanical skills and aptitude. Handyman work, home repairs, plumbing, home electrical, working on cars, fabrication, etc. are all good experience that will show you possess mechanical aptitude.
    • This role will require maintenance and repair of machines such as: conveyors, bearings, lumber saws, belt/chain-driven rolls, rolling presses, and more.
  • Should be comfortable with minor electrical repairs such as replacing fuses and resecuring loose wires. This role would not be expected to work on any electrical over 50 volts until proper training was provided.
  • Have some fabrication and welding ability or be willing to learn MIG welding.
  • Understand how to properly use a drill, impact wrench, drill press, and other tools.
  • Cleanliness and organization skills are very important.

If you lack some of the above skills, but excel in other ways, we still want to hear from you! We offer training for missing/lacking skills, but the ideal candidate should have mechanical aptitude and a skill set that allows them to stay busy with minor/moderate maintenance and repairs on our equipment.
