The role

Our team in Le Sueur, MN is looking for their newest Laboratory Technician I. This position is responsible for supporting production and quality control by performing a variety of microbiological, chemical, and physical tests on raw materials, in-process products, and finished products. The role ensures that products meet internal and external standards for food safety and quality, while also maintaining accurate records of testing data and ensuring that laboratory equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform chemical and microbiological testing on raw materials, in-process, and finished products according to standard operating procedures.

  • Ensure sample receipt, distribution and analysis is completed as required. Communicate product needs when appropriate.

  • Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and ensure that it meets all quality control standards.

  • Accurately document testing results in log books, spreadsheets, and laboratory management software.

  • Support the implementation of GMPs, GLPs, HACCP/FSP, and other regulatory requirements related to quality and food safety.

  • Assist with root cause analysis for non-conformances and participate in the corrective and preventive actions process.

  • Conduct daily pre-operational evaluations of processing areas and equipment, ensuring compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

  • Work closely with the production team to resolve quality issues and ensure product consistency.

  • Participate in internal audits and ensure non-conformance solutions are executed.

  • Troubleshoot issues with laboratory equipment and work with supervisors to address operational concerns.

  • Provide support for customer and third-party audits by ensuring documentation and testing results are up to date.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices.

  • Safety Protocol

  • Stop any observed unsafe acts and obey facility safety rules and procedures.

  • Correct or report any observed safety hazards.

  • Support safety policies and programs.

Profile sought

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Preferred: Either an Associate's Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field or.

Experience Required:

  • No experience required; on the job training provided.

  • Preferred: Experience within Quality Assurance or successful completion of internship experience within a laboratory setting.

Equivalent combination of education and/or experience to be considered.

Skills Required:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in testing and data recording.

  • Ability to read and understand SOPs, GLP, GMP, GLPS, HACCP, and related documentation.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with supervisors/managers, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the organization.

  • Basic math plus fractions, decimals and percentages, as well as algebraic calculations.

  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and field-specific software.

  • Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and work to maintain constructive working relationships.
