Interim Controller Birmingham, AL (Onsite/Hybrid) Vaco is assisting a financial services organization in Birmingham is seeking an Interim Controller to provide leadership and oversight during a transitional period. This role will manage core accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support the business with timely insights. This is a hands-on opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional who can step in quickly, stabilize processes, and partner with leadership in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Oversee month-end close and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting Manage general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation Maintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policies Support audit processes and coordinate with external auditors Oversee cash management and assist with financial planning activities Partner with leadership on reporting, analysis, and special projects Identify and implement process improvements to drive efficiency Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance CPA strongly preferred 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within financial services Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and controls Proven ability to step into interim roles and operate independently Excellent communication and leadership skills This is a high-impact interim role offering strong visibility and the opportunity to support a growing organization during a critical period.
