About the Role We are seeking a *midlevel Instructional Designer* to support a longstanding federal program in Washington, DC. This role focuses on designing and developing *highimpact, interactive digital learning experiences* for a professional workforce.
This is a *handson, endtoend instructional design role*, ideal for someone who enjoys owning the full lifecycle of learning-from client discovery and storyboarding through development, refinement, and launch. This position is *hybrid*, with 2 days onsite per week. Initial onboarding may require up to 5 days onsite before transitioning back to the hybrid schedule. Key Responsibilities * Partner directly with stakeholders to understand business problems, learner audiences, and training objectives * Design learning strategies and structure content to meet defined goals * Create detailed storyboards outlining learner experience, visuals, and interactivity * Design and develop engaging digital learning content, including: * Interactive eLearning courses * Animations and simulations * Gamified learning experiences * Build and refine training using *Articulate Storyline 360* * Design visual assets, graphics, and animations to enhance learner engagement * Create or incorporate *3D models and animations* into learning content * Apply web development principles (*HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsive design*) to support functionality and accessibility * Incorporate gamification elements such as badges, challenges, simulations, and branching scenarios * Iterate on content based on feedback and stakeholder reviews Required Qualifications * *4-8 years of professional experience* in instructional design, digital learning, or a related field * *US Citizenship* with the ability to pass a federal background investigation (Public Trust) * Proven experience owning the *full instructional design lifecycle* * *Expertlevel proficiency in Articulate Storyline 360* (advanced interactivity, branching, custom navigation, gamification) * Experience with *Camtasia* for screen recording and editing * Strong background in designing *interactive and gamified learning experiences* * *3D design and animation experience* using professional 3D tools * Working knowledge of *HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design* * Prior *clientfacing experience* with the ability to clearly articulate design choices and solutions * Strong communication skills and attention to detail *A portfolio showcasing instructional design work is required* Preferred / NicetoHave Skills * Proficiency in *Adobe Creative Suite* (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) * Experience creating *motion graphics and animations* * Experience with *Vyond (GoAnimate)* * Advanced experience designing *scenariobased or gamebased learning* Work Environment * Hybrid work schedule (2 days onsite / 3 days remote) * Office location directly across from the *NoMA Metro stop* * Stable, longterm program with defined funding * Collaborative team focused on quality, creativity, and learner engagement Why This Role * Opportunity to convert to a *fulltime position after 6 months* * Work on meaningful, largescale digital learning initiatives * Build technically advanced, visually compelling learning experiences * Strong balance of autonomy, collaboration, and professional growth *Job Type & Location* This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $40.87 - $45.67/hr.
