What to Expect

The Construction EHS Specialist will play a pivotal role on the team responsible for influencing, inspiring, and empowering construction staff, stakeholders, and partner contractors across current and future Giga Texas projects. This position drives the implementation and continuous improvement of Tesla's Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) strategy to create and maintain a safe, healthy, and high-performing workplace.

Working directly on-site, the Construction EHS Specialist will deliver hands-on support to Tesla's construction teams and onboarded partner contractors, ensuring Tesla's rigorous EHS standards are not only met but consistently exceeded. Reporting to the Construction Safety Manager, this role is essential in clearly setting Tesla's safety expectations to contractors and promoting a robust safety culture with our contractors.


What You'll Do
  • Provide field safety oversight of construction work activities for major infrastructure projects. Conduct project walks focused on safe work practices and conduct coaching conversations with workers when corrections are required
  • Be a visible model in the field, teach, train and coach business teams and support staff on fundamental EHS&S concepts and principles to reduce risk, and influence, inspire, and empower business teams and staff to reduce risk per our Tesla EHS&S vision, values and principles
  • Participate in reviews for high hazard work prior to execution to include critical lifts, confined space entries, high voltage work, pressure testing, fall protection plans, etc. Review Pre-Work Risk Assessments and Pre-Task Plans to ensure tasks, hazards and mitigations are in alignment with the work being performed in the field
  • Conduct proactive field activities and facility processes inspections to verify work in progress meets EHS&S goals, and document findings using internal and external software tools and applications; review improvement opportunities with EHS&S management, supervisors, operations managers, and stakeholders
  • Present material and information to the Tesla construction management team and contractors during safety meetings. Be a resource to the construction project management team and provide guidance, assistance and direction regarding EHS requirements
  • Perform frequent combined safety and environmental inspections and procedural audits in the field and have the skills, knowledge and ability to take immediate corrective action if required. Present findings and relevant information to the Tesla construction management team and contractors when needed
  • Ensure compliance with Local, State and Federal health and safety regulations

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred, or equivalent experience building high-tech infrastructure and operational facilities (Automotive, tool/equipment installation, semiconductor, solar, battery, etc.)
  • GSP, ASP or CHST preferred
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced and changing environment
  • Background in electrical, mechanical and process plumbing systems, or heavy civil preferred
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, ISO, ANSI, NFPA and ASTM standards
  • Ability to communicate clearly and interface across multiple departments
