Job Summary: The Tax Compliance Accountant is primarily responsible for supporting business license tracking and preparation for hundreds of municipalities across the business. This role supports financial integrity by preparing Sales & Use Tax returns, excise tax filings, and associated journal entries for multiple states. A typical day involves reconciling general ledger accounts, documenting tax department processes, and collaborating with Project Managers to ensure accurate accounting for various departmental projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and file renewals for city and state business licenses across all operating regions. Support the preparation and filing of sales & use tax, excise tax, and other similar regulatory filings. Coordinate the collection of necessary data and documentation to support state income tax filings. Perform tax accruals via journal entries and conduct regular analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts. Maintain comprehensive documentation of tax department processes and work instructions. Communicate with Project Managers and department personnel to resolve accounting matters relevant to specific projects. Collaborate with external tax consultants and assist in gathering information required for specialized tax matters. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the manager (i.e. special projects)
Position Requirements (Work Experience, Skills, Licenses, etc.):
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data analysis and tax reporting.
- Foundational understanding of accounting principles and GAAP.
- Proven ability to multi-task and maintain high levels of detail orientation to meet strict filing deadlines.
- Strong written and oral communication skills for effective internal and external collaboration.
- Experience utilizing JD Edwards or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software preferred.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to streamlining work processes.
- Proficiency in operating within a Windows-based computing environment.
Education and Experience:
- Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or equivalent experience.
- 0-2 years of experience in accounting or tax roles

Job Responsibility Level: No direct reports Travel Requirements: Travel required 0-5% of the time to other office locations. Hours: This is an exempt position. Workdays are scheduled from Monday through Friday. Typically, work hours begin and end between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm as scheduled with the position's supervisor. Physical Demands:
Prolonged sitting. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Regularly required to reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
