ChristianaCare is looking for a Project Manager - Facilities Engineering in Newark, Delaware to be responsible for managing projects within existing facilities as assigned from their inception through construction and completion. The position includes assistance with project development, plan reviews for code and CCHS construction standard compliance, project contract administration, construction supervision (as owner's representative) and cost control of the project as well as verification of proper project close out. The position will also provide administrative oversite of contracted project managers assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops with the project's administrative sponsor (Department Head) the project organization (project design team) and development schedule. Calls and chairs meetings of the design team; prepares meeting agendas; prepares and distributes minutes of meetings.
  • Develops with design team the functional requirements (program) of the project and prepares a preliminary budget estimate for project control.
  • Develops the overall design concept for the project.
  • Prepares in sequence, schematic, preliminary design and working drawings for the project. Alternatively acts as primary liaison between CCHS and consulting architectural firm who does this. Obtains approval of the administrative sponsor and design team at each stage of design development.
  • Supervises and integrates the work of consulting engineers in the overall project design.
  • Prepares a construction and project cost estimate based on the final approved design drawings.
  • Prepares bidding and construction documents including construction contracts, working drawings and specifications.
  • Receives and analyzes bids for construction work. Recommends successful bidder to Facilities Engineering leadership for award of contract.
  • During construction, administers the contract as the owner's representative for the Christiana Care Health System; supervises work of contractors, recommends changes in the work, approves progress payments, maintains cost control and accepts finished work for the owner.
  • Represents the Christiana Care Health System in relationships with various city, county state and federal agencies, Delaware Department of Health, Building Inspector and Loal or State Fire Marshals.
  • Assures contractors perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to self, other employees, patients or visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Hours: Day Shift - Off hours as needed based on department needs

Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited school with an engineering discipline degree.

Five (5) years of increasingly responsible architectural experience. Prior responsibility for project management of new and replacement construction work.

Knowledge, skill, and ability requirements:

Knowledge of federal, state and local building codes.

Knowledge of materials, costs and construction techniques.

Knowledge of structural, mechanical and electrical engineering design.

Knowledge of construction contracts and trade practices.

Knowledge of legal aspects of design and construction

Ability to maintain professional competence through continuing education.

Ability to work independently in area of primary function.

Ability to exercise professional judgment in translating functional requirements into architectural design and then into finished construction.

Physical demands:

Visits to hazardous areas involved in project construction. Walking and climbing in areas of demolition and new construction.

Hourly Pay Range: $38.22 - $61.16 This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
