The Research Analyst II will provide survey development, statistical analysis, and other research and administrative support to the research team of the Maternal Infant Health Assessment (MIHA), an annual population-based survey of people with a recent live birth funded by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Maternal Child Adolescent Health Division (MCAH). This position involves supporting the annual development, testing, and finalization of MIHA survey instruments and other study documents. It requires critically reviewing and summarizing a wide range of published literature, policy recommendations, and other documents related to maternal and child health. The candidate will support day-to-day operations of MIHA as needed (e. g., helping lead parts of team meetings, utilizing project management software, tracking deliverables, maintaining websites).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a relevant field.
  • At least two years of experience conducting data management and data analysis with SAS statistical software or expertise in another statistical software and demonstrated ability to learn SAS
  • Knowledge of maternal and child health issues, public health surveillance systems, and health equity principles in research settings
  • Skilled at communicating complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing for scientific and lay audiences
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail and the flexibility to manage evolving project demands across multiple workstreams
  • Demonstrated ability to create timelines, track multiple deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities while managing day-to-day operations
  • Understanding of survey methodology and implementation processes, including some experience with questionnaire design, pretesting procedures, and quality assurance in research settings.
  • Demonstrated analytic capabilities, including the ability to conduct and interpret data analyses for improving questionnaire effectiveness and assessing population needs
  • Ability to review and synthesize scientific literature
  • Ability to be onsite in San Francisco at least once weekly and travel within California as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in public health
  • Proven track record of working both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment, maintaining effective relationships with internal teams and external partners
  • Experience with health equity research and racial/social disparities research
  • Experience with survey implementation tools and methods, including web-based platforms, CATI systems, and various pretesting approaches (focus groups, cognitive interview, online)
  • Experience with large-scale, population-based survey data
  • Experience working with federal, state, local health departments, and/or community organizations
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish, ability to proof-read and conduct research activities in Spanish
  • Working skills in Qualtrics, SharePoint, Smartsheet systems programming, database design
  • Working skills in editing website content and social media communications

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
