Job Summary:

The Deputy Director serves as a senior leadership role in the Student Union, Events and Conference Services (SUECS) department and directly oversees the daily operations of the Student Union, Performing Arts Center, and events services functions across all campuses. The Deputy Director formulates policies and goals for events services and union programming, and directs the effective and efficient operations of the department. The Deputy Director directs all main campus event space rentals and oversees preparation, evaluation, and future planning for annual event operations budgets and revenue generation. This position serves as the departmental liaison with event partners, the NEIU Police Department and University Technology Services. Acts for the Executive Director of Student Union and Campus Recreation in their absence.

Job Description:

  • The Deputy Director directs the day-to-day administration of the Student Union, Events & Conference Services (SUECS) department and coordination of meetings, events and conferences utilizing Northeastern Illinois University facilities.The Deputy Director shall also lead the coordination of support services including Production Technical Services, Catering, Facilities Management, University Police, and parking for events and special campus functions.

  • The Deputy Director will work closely with the Executive Director to lead the overall development and continued improvement of the department to best serve university needs and goals, including the development of departmental policies and procedures, implementation of new programming and functionalities, capital/facility improvements and strategic planning.

  • Directs all aspects of the private rental program, renting University facilities to non-University entities; oversees the relationships with external clients and vendors; assists with the creation, review, and execution of outside rental contracts (Facilities Use Agreements); manages revenue budgets and payment processing; manages long-term planning and effective event management to ensure the revenue goals are met; and assists with marketing and promoting the private rental program.

  • Provides direct supervision, professional direction, and evaluation to full-time and student staff. This includes the Manager of Special Events and Conferences, Special Events Facilitator, Space Administrator II, and Office Administrator.

  • Assists with providing oversight of Student Union operations: including daily operating functions, food service relations, kitchen equipment management, emergency procedures, and facility improvement project management.

  • Serve as event lead and liaison to university leadership for high-level university events including Board of Trustees and Alumni Board Meetings, and other major university events as needed.

  • As assigned, directs budget preparation and expenditures of departmental appropriations and recommends future funding requirements as a result of new or modified program requirements; independently evaluates the financial position of the departmental operations.

  • Oversee departmental communications, public relations and marketing planning. Interprets and promotes departmental objectives and improvements to campus partners.

  • Serves as Co-Chair of the Northeastern Illinois University Commencement ceremonies.

  • Serves as department representative in the absence of the Executive Director. Attends meetings as necessary and serves as senior departmental functional administrator when the Executive Director is not present. Shall serve on university committees and participate in other University projects as needed.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications:

1. Eleven (11) years of progressively responsible management work experience in a private or governmental organization:

A. Eight (8) years in the area of designated specialization required by the position

AND

B. Three (3) years supervising the work of a professional staff or process within the designated specialization

  • Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the above three (3) years non-specialized experience requirement

  • Master's degree may be substituted for one (1) year specialized work experience

This position requires a background check.

Salary Range

$79,000
