The Virtual Training & Development Lead for the W-TRS program at Phoenix Defense is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of virtual and constructive training in support of U.S. Army units assigned to, or rotating through, Grafenwoehr Training Area and other forward-deployed locations across Europe. This position ensures the seamless integration of simulation systems, training support personnel, and operational units to deliver realistic, mission-focused training aligned with U.S. Army readiness objectives and TRADOC guidance.

The role serves as a Lead within the W-TRS GMDT program, providing technical oversight, operational direction, and leadership in a high-tempo, multinational training environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Plan, synchronize, and execute virtual and constructive training events supporting U.S. Army rotational and forward-stationed units.
  • Integrate Army simulation systems (e.g., Close Combat Tactical Trainer (CCTT), Conduct of Fire Trainer (COFT), Aviation Gunnery Training System (AGATS)) into unit training strategies.
  • Lead and manage W-TRS personnel supporting virtual training operations, ensuring performance, accountability, and mission success.
  • Coordinate directly with supported unit commanders, staff, and higher headquarters to align training with readiness objectives and Mission Essential Task Lists (METL).
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and operational readiness of assigned simulation systems and associated infrastructure.
  • Ensure training scenarios accurately replicate operational environments and are aligned with current U.S. Army doctrine and evolving threats.
  • Facilitate joint and multinational training integration with NATO and partner nation forces.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and provide detailed feedback, after-action reviews (AARs), and recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with W-TRS contract requirements, safety standards, and security protocols.
  • Support innovation and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance training realism, efficiency, and effectiveness.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of military and civilian experience.
  • Minimum of 8-12 years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of military training simulators.
  • Demonstrated experience with U.S. Army simulation systems (e.g., COFT, AGATS, CCTT, or similar platforms).
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex, multi-echelon training events.
  • Prior service as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), or equivalent civilian leadership experience in virtual training systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Active DoD security clearance required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)



  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. Army training doctrine, TRADOC standards, and readiness requirements.
  • Strong technical expertise in virtual, constructive, and gaming simulation systems.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute large-scale training events across multiple units and organizations.
  • Demonstrated leadership in high-tempo, operational environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior military leaders, staff, and multinational partners.
  • Ability to analyze complex training scenarios and provide actionable feedback.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Army training management systems.


Physical Demands



  • Ability to work in both office and field training environments, including simulation facilities and tactical settings.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement between training locations and facilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 40 pounds.
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in support of training missions.
  • Ability to operate effectively in austere environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel within Germany and to other European training sites as required.
