The HCS Program Manager, Patient Safety & Accreditation, under the supervision of the System Executive Director, Patient Safety & Accreditation, will help advance high-performing, integrated system programs for patient safety and accreditation. This role supports the design, implementation, and ongoing management of system infrastructure that strengthens patient safety, accreditation readiness, regulatory compliance, and organizational learning across UNC Health entities. Working in a matrixed environment, this position will partner with system and entity leaders to build consistent frameworks, processes, tools, reporting structures, and governance approaches that support reliable execution while accommodating local operational needs. The Program Manager will play an important role in change management by helping translate strategic direction into practical implementation plans, supporting adoption of new structures and standards, and coordinating work across hospitals, campuses, and stakeholder groups. Responsibilities include program planning and administration, development of infrastructure and operational processes, project and change management, coordination of implementation activities, monitoring and reporting progress, and supporting achievement of program objectives. The role also contributes to the maturation of system approaches that improve standardization, strengthen readiness, reduce fragmentation, and support sustained performance improvement in patient safety and accreditation.

Responsibilities:

  1. Analysis: Analyzes and resolves complex issues to maximize efficiency. Ensures all proper internal controls are in place to safeguard assets of the system and satisfies internal and external regulatory requirements. Develops and monitors operating and capital budget.
  2. Communication and Relationships: Works with peers to identify and analyze opportunities for improvement. Implements processes to identify, implement and ensure standardization decisions occur with minimal disruption to patient care or administrative activities and creating solutions.
  3. Financial and Business Planning: Provides analytical and strategy support for the assigned program. Performs analytics, provides business insight into implications of findings, develops business plans, and recommends opportunities for improvement.
  4. Program Administration: Plan, coordinate and administer activities of assigned program to include developing, implementing, and administering related procedures, processes, services and systems.
  5. Strategic Planning: Interface with all UNC Health entities and effectively communicate strategies, successfully elicit support and provide assistance implementing those strategies.

  • Bachelor's degree

Professional Experience Requirements:

  • Five (5) years of program/project management experience required.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
  • Knowledge of healthcare operations, hospital accreditation, patient safety, regulatory readiness, and performance improvement principles in complex healthcare settings.
  • Skill in program and project management, including planning, execution, coordination of multiple workstreams, milestone tracking, and follow-through across a matrixed health system.
  • Ability to build and improve operational infrastructure, including frameworks, tools, workflows, reporting processes, governance structures, and implementation supports.
  • Skill in change management, including supporting leaders and teams through transitions, advancing standardization, facilitating adoption of new processes, and managing change across multiple stakeholders and entities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to synthesize information, identify themes and risks, develop practical recommendations, and support data-informed decision-making.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-management skills, with the ability to work effectively with executive leaders, physicians, quality leaders, operational leaders, and frontline teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, ambiguous, and evolving environment, balancing system priorities with entity needs while maintaining progress on strategic objectives.
