Job Summary

This position supports the pre- and post-award grant obligations for SWOG's NCTN Operations grant and other incoming agreements, including monitoring expenditures, internal financial reports, NIH progress reporting, and effort coordination. Manages SWOG's large outgoing subaward portfolio, which includes 150-200 subawards and or contracts of varying types and degrees of complexity. Coordinates SWOG project supplement requests through the Biomarker, Imaging and QOL Funding Program. Creates and edits SWOG's NCTN funding memorandums in accordance with program policies.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor degree in business administration, accounting, or related field and/or equivalent experience and training.
  • Experience in post-award grant management and financial analysis.
  • Extensive knowledge and skills with pre-and post-award grant management.
  • Extensive analytical and critical thinking skills to research and interpret data and policy, contribute to solutions, forecast the impact of potential actions, develop logical conclusions, and/or recommend solutions.
  • Demonstrated financial accounting and/or auditing skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills to develop estimates and assumptions to support the budget.
  • Advanced experience and/or skills to develop and review complicated, multi-year, multi-funded projects budget in accordance with sponsor guidelines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grant funding processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated skills to review and analyze budget variances from actual expenditures and to forecast.
  • Demonstrated skills creating and formating spreadsheets and databases using relative cell references and pivot tables for presentation.
  • Demonstrated organization skills to set work priorities with pressure of deadlines.
  • Statistical skills to compile, analyze, and present financial data in a clear and concise format.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to understand and appropriately respond to multiple and frequent inquiries, requests, and instructions in a courteous, cooperative, and professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preferred of at least 3 years working in post-award grant management and financial analysis.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Network Group trials, such as NCTN and NCORP programs.
  • Knowledge and skills with Aggie Enterprise, Cayuse 424, Cognos, UC Path, etc.
  • Knowledge and ability to understand University fund accounting, generally accepted accounting principles and government auditing standards.
  • Knowledge of University contracts/grants, financial, accounting and payroll policies and procedures.

Department Overview

The University of California, Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCDCCC) is a Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Institute, and an Organized Research Unit (ORU) under the Office of Research. UCDCCC is a clinical and research enterprise consisting of over 254 faculty members from the Davis, Sacramento, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory campuses with research funding totaling $54M.

SWOG Cancer Research Network receives Federal grant funding and is one of five Network groups that together comprise the National Cancer Institutes, National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN). SWOG designs and conducts multidisciplinary clinical trials to improve the practice of medicine in preventing, detecting, treating, and enhancing the quality of life of people with cancer. SWOG's leadership beyond the Network Operations Center at UCDCCC includes over 50 Executive Officers, Committee Chairs, Vice Chairs, Translational Medicine sub-committee chairs and other related leadership positions. SWOG's National institutional membership includes over 1,300 institutions, hospitals, and clinics.

Department Specific Job Scope

The Research Administrator is an integral member of the SWOG Cancer Research Network Operations Office and reports to and works closely with the SWOG Assistant Director of Grants Management (CGM1). This position provides high-level fiscal, analytical, and administrative support to the SWOG grants team.
