The USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is seeking a Student Services Advisor II in the Academic Service Hub. This position directly advises the PhD student populations in Social Sciences and supports recruitment and events pertaining to the PhD programs and community. The largest and oldest of the USC schools, USC Dornsife functions as the academic core of the university, offering courses and advancing knowledge across the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

Based on a divisional framework, Academic Services Hubs will provide staff support to approximately 36 departments across Dornsife. The Social Science Hub directly supports the academic and administrative capacity of approximately nine academic departments in Dornsife. The mission of the Dornsife Academic Service Hubs is to provide optimal, localized support to academic departments by providing specialized services that foster the academic, instructional, and research-driven engagement of faculty, staff and students in the Dornsife community.

Responsibilities:

The Student Services Advisor II in Social Sciences will support the hub, which may include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Assists in the planning and execution of recruitment strategies and admissions for major PhD programs in academic units across the hub
  • Advises on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, transfer credit evaluation, graduation counseling and clearance
  • Strongly collaborates with Dornsife Undergraduate Education on Teaching Assistant (TA) slots and assignments
  • Assists in the preparation or update of bulletins, newsletters, handbooks, guides, fact sheets, brochures and other communication pieces
  • Plans and coordinates student events including commencement, orientation, receptions, and award ceremonies
  • Evaluates student problems, academic, administrative or personal, and refers student to appropriate student services office for additional counseling
  • Maintains currency on policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to admissions, financial aid, registration, transfer credit evaluation, course and degree requirements, graduation requirements, petitions and other student services.
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education, specifically working with student support services
  • Experience in academic advising, preferably with graduate level students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of student development theories and academic policies
  • Experience with data analysis and assessment to inform student support initiatives

Salary range: The hourly rate range for this position is $34.35 - $39.03. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer alignment, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

This position is on-campus/hybrid depending on the role.
