ATAC has an opening for an Associate Software Development Engineer/Analyst. This is a full-time position located on-site at the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA's) William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. Telecommuting will NOT be authorized. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated member of ATAC's WJHTC team and will support various research efforts including developing and evaluating methods for analyzing, processing, and filtering various forms of air traffic control data from existing FAA systems to support reduction of separation in the en-route and oceanic airspace environment and enhancement of commercial aviation safety.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Collaborating with other in-house FAA researchers and laboratory personnel, developers, programmers, and other contract support as well as research partners such as NASA, MITRE, and other universities to advance separations standards analysis capabilities.
  • Collaboration with foreign Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs).
  • Developing new data processing tools, supporting data analyses including automating analysis processes and report generation.
  • Improving existing software.
  • Supporting user interface development and restructuring and processing historical data.
  • Supporting the development of functional requirements and software documentation.
  • Attending and presenting at technical conferences virtually and in person (with other ANSPs/RMAs)
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
A background check will be required for this position.

Qualifications
ATAC is looking for a self-starter that can work independently and complete projects with minimum oversight. They must be adaptable and able to learn new coding languages, tools, and technologies as necessary to meet customer needs. They must have a technical background and be able to perform tasks such as reading engineering plots and understanding other technical information.

Required attributes include:
  • A BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a related field and 0 to 6 years of related job experience
  • Strong software development skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal relations skills
  • US citizenship or permanent residency

Desired attributes include:
  • Engineering background/experience
  • Expertise with Java, JavaScript, C++ and Python
  • Knowledge of legacy software languages and/or ability to interpret, translate to newer languages, and improve upon legacy code.
  • Signal processing background/experience
  • Knowledge of the current air traffic management system and future separation assurance concepts
