The FSS Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, maintaining, evaluating and overseeing programs designed to increase the economic self-sufficiency of low-income families to reduce their need for subsidized programs and services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Determine the most appropriate agencies to provide services for Family Self-Sufficiency program participants.
- Process resident Family Self-Sufficiency applications, screen applicants and determine eligibility.
- Establish and maintain contact with community agencies that provide services and support to Family Self-Sufficiency program.
- Establish procedures for recruitment and selection of Family Self-Sufficiency program participants.
- Coordinate the Newark Housing Authority efforts to make families self-sufficient with social, community and other agencies that provide assistance to the Family Self-Sufficiency program.
- Organize agenda and participate in meetings that provide residents information on the Family Self-Sufficiency program.
- Conduct orientation to inform interested and selected participants about Family Self-Sufficiency program goals and objectives.
- Conduct one-on-one interviews with Family Self-Sufficiency participants, prepare contracts, prepare needs assessment, and make referrals.
- Coordinate services needed by individual Family Self-Sufficiency participants, provide counseling and monitor family compliance with participation contract.
- Perform initial and periodic re-examinations of Family Self-Sufficiency participants and non-participants and make any required rent adjustments.
- Compile forms, reports, letters, etc., and establish and maintain files on Family Self-Sufficiency participants and non-participants.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in economic self-sufficiency services working with low-income families and diverse populations
- Must have good communication and math skills
- Must know how to do rent calculations in connection with subsidies
- Ability to work with families to find services
- Associate's Degree in psychology, sociology, social services, human services, education or related field preferred
