Position Description:

The University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts seeks an early career professional for a full time Visiting Assistant Professor in Acting.This faculty member will teach six courses each year. They include introductoryto intermediate acting classes as well as other topics including: Acting for the Camera, Shakespeare, Devising and Kinetics. The visitor will be an active mentor to undergraduate actors, coaching and responding to their work in productions, and will advise general theatre students.This appointment will begin August 19, 2026.

Employer Profile: The Department offers a BA in Theatre, which includes multiple courses in acting, movement and voice, and an MFA with specializations in Acting, Directing, Design, Dramaturgy, Playwriting and Stage Management. The MFA Acting program accepts students every three years. The University of Iowa is a leader in the development of new plays for the stage. The Department produces at least 20 productions annually, most of them new works.



Education Requirement:


  • MFA in Acting or Directing.


Required Qualifications:


  • professional artistic accomplishments in Directing and Acting
  • ability to teach the following acting methods: Meisner, Viewpoints, Kinetics (Both acting and directing)
  • experience in new play development, devising, and clown.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Ability to teach one or more of the following:



    • Acting for the Camera
    • Linklater or other recognized stage vocal technique
    • Acting in Shakespeare
    • Acting in New Works
