THE POSITION

Are you a dependable, hardworking individual who finds genuine satisfaction in a job well done? The Department of Labor & Industry is looking for a dedicated Custodial Worker 1 to join our maintenance team at the Hiram G. Andrews Center. In this vital position, you will be responsible for providing custodial services that ensure a safe, clean, fresh, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, experience with various cleaning techniques, supplies, and machines is helpful but not a must as on-the-job training will be given. You will be responsible for providing floor care from daily cleaning to stripping and waxing through the operation of all custodial equipment including automatic floor scrubbers, floor polishers, vacuum cleaners (wet and dry), carpet extractors, and the use of dust mops, damp mops, mop buckets, and wringers. Work involves performing thorough cleaning to include disinfecting offices, hallways, lounges, restrooms, and shower rooms with the appropriate use of cleaning chemicals and tools. You will also be responsible for cleaning occupied student living quarters.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Shift work, 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, 7 days per week, with a 30-minute lunch period.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • ISSA or similar commercial cleaning certification
  • Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital. (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, and buffing
  • Work experience in a commercial or residential facility
  • Work experience interacting with students, staff, or tenants
  • Custodial work experience in the following environments: dorm rooms, activity/recreation rooms, bathroom/shower or bathing rooms, cafeteria/dining room setting, entranceway/lobby/common space, nursing station, patient/resident rooms, pharmacy, physical therapy rooms

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
