Center for Autism and Related Disabilities:

The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) is the largest of the seven regional autism programs in Florida. Funded through an annual legislative allocation, the center serves over 26,000 residents of central Florida with on the autism spectrum across the lifespan through consultative individual and family support, training and technical assistance, and public awareness, with a mission of optimizing the potential of people with autism and related disabilities.

CARD is a clinical service center within the College of Health Professions and Sciences.

The Opportunity:

The Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Family Liaison assists ASD Specialists and Center Director by providing clinical support services and training for families of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. This includes clinical and educational support via direct face-to-face and remote and meetings, helping to create action plans, attending IEP/IFSP/ISP meetings, providing support during home visits, and parent education presentations. This position also assists in triage of needs for these clients, and participates in ASD screenings in the community, and presentations and public awareness activities reflecting life-span concerns that face families of children and adults with ASD.

The ASD Family Liaison is a member of a dedicated team of cross-disciplinary professionals with expertise in autism spectrum disorders and works to support all individuals and communities with individuals with autism in that region. This is a grant-funded opportunity that runs through Jun 30-2026, with potential for renewal.

Responsibilities:


  • Provide clinical and educational support through remote and inperson meetings, including developing action plans and participating in IEP, IFSP, and ISP meetings.

  • Provide support during home visits and share basic information and informed recommendations related to services, educational activities, and lifespan concerns for families of children and adults with ASD.

  • Support public awareness activities in the community, including serving on panels, conducting support groups, and presenting family workshops on topics related to Autism Spectrum and family issues.

  • Assist with triaging client needs and participate in ASD screenings within the community.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Perform physical activities such as lifting up to 30 lbs, bending with a full range of motion, walking up to 0.25 miles, and completing the duties described above.


Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prefer candidate with the ability to communicate in both English and Spanish to work effectively with customers and team members.

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant education related to autism treatment and support.

  • Familiarity with issues impacting families of children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

  • Familiarity with resources for families living with ASD in Central Florida.

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience.

  • Proficiency with current technologies and platforms, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, FileMaker, and Windowsbased applications.

  • Experience with digital tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, social media content creation, or website development/management.


The most successful candidates may possess the following qualities:


  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, attention to detail, and effective use of work time.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorders.

  • Lived experience as a member of a family impacted by ASD.

  • This is a Contract and Grant (C&G) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

  • Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business. Frequent travel with personal vehicle in the Central Florida area (Volusia, Brevard, Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole and Sumter counties), with mileage and toll reimbursement at state rate.

  • The anticipated hourly range for this position is $20.29-24.86. The final hourly rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

  • Applicant must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer, as sponsorship is not available for this position.
