Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Quality Engineer to be based out of our New Bedford, MA facility. Reporting to the Quality Director, this person will be responsible for identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, formulating corrective and preventive actions, and working to implement those actions to improve quality levels and regulatory compliance.

The ideal internal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing operations. Experience in manufacturing of wire and cable is a plus. Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company is a requirement.

What you'll do:



  • Ensure that the quality objectives are cascaded to the direct reports and implement daily management mechanism, that will ensure these objectives are met.
  • Work collaboratively with all management and leadership team to drive improvement towards Atkore mission and ensuring values are consistently met and demonstrated.
  • Utilizes problem solving approach and tools such as 8D, fishbone, 5-why etc. in the resolution of customer complaints, scrap reduction and internal quality issues.
  • Utilize statistical approach and data analytics to analyze quality performance, to inform management team on key areas of focus supported with improvement actions.
  • Supports Production personnel by resolving process and material related quality problems in support of various manufacturing departments.
  • Supports process improvement projects using various Quality tools such as FMEA, Gage R&R, SPC, Pareto analysis and other six sigma/lean tools.
  • Conducts training for new hires as part of their orientation; provides refresher training as needed for all employees.
  • Develops and conducts training classes for production personnel to address defects and issues raised by customer complaints and internal defects, utilizing problem solving methodologies.
  • Working collaboratively with cross functional team to ensure compliance with changing management processes as well as ensuring comprehensive steps are taken to mitigate all potential risks.


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science along with a minimum of three (3) years of quality management experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) credential strongly preferred.
  • Familiar with various problem-solving tools and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, inspection methods, gauging and measuring techniques.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical methods and experience with Six Sigma/Lean projects preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills within all levels of the organizations.
  • Good knowledge of quality management systems (ISO9001).
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office and Statistical Analysis Packages.


Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
  • Understand your team's strengths and opportunities.
  • Have a detailed understanding of internal defects and customer complaints.
  • Be part of daily Gemba walks and participate in LDM (lean daily management) meetings.


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Understand and participate in developing countermeasures to meet department goals.
  • Lead group and site Quality related discussions based on specified topics.
  • Lead problem solving activity to resolve internal scrap and customer complaints.
  • Initiate monthly one-on-one discussions with direct reports.


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Be managing an efficient team that exceeds goals.
  • Develop and train teams to updated standard work and work instruction.
  • Perform SWOT, develop strategies and collaborate with Quality Director to develop annual strategy.
  • Have meaningful conversations with your team to improve their engagement, alignment, and performance.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $78,560 - $108,020. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
