SUMMARY

The Manager of Custodial Services performs complex custodial supervisory work. Work involves supervising custodial staff, 1st and 2nd shift, scheduling and assigning work, and requisitioning supplies and equipment. This position plans, assigns and/or supervises the work of others and works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The position covers multiple County buildings including but not limited to the following: Courthouse, One Montgomery Plaza, Juvenile Probation, and Willow Grove Annex.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the performance of general custodial functions such as sweeping, mopping, and dusting; the cleaning of office furniture, walls, windows, and floors; and the emptying of trash.
  • Inspects buildings for cleanliness, completed work, and needed repairs.
  • Prepares reports of work activities.
  • Meets with site administrators to ensure their custodial needs are being met and their suggestions for improved service are being heard.
  • Ensures that custodial services meet the needs of the department and establish custodial guidelines by scheduling work and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences.
  • Supports recycling programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure all facilities required for special functions are adequately prepared in a timely fashion by maintaining a calendar of County functions.
  • Requisitions and distributes supplies and equipment and maintains records of supplies used.
  • Maintains records related to inspections, maintenance, personnel, and budget.
  • Plans, schedules, and implements cleaning.
  • Oversee hiring, training and safety requirements for new custodial staff as required including but not limited to cart set up, chemicals and work area.
  • Performs any related work that may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum ten years supervisory experience in this field.
  • Experience in custodial work.
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures and of inventory control principles and methods.
  • Skill in the use of custodial materials and chemicals and in the operation of custodial equipment.
  • Ability to inspect work areas and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Interpersonal skills
