Tyler Union, a division of McWane, Inc., is the nation's leading manufacturer of Ductile Iron Waterworks Fittings and Appurtenances has an immediate opening for a Shipping Clerk for the Anniston, AL location.

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for preparing, documenting, and coordinating the shipment of products, materials, and supplies. This role ensures accurate order processing, timely carrier scheduling, proper documentation, and compliance with shipping requirements while supporting overall warehouse operations.

This is a salaried non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime, with an excellent benefits package with health, life, dental, and vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability, vacation, holiday pay and 401(k).

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Prepare accurate documentation for all outgoing shipments, including bills of lading, packing slips, and content lists.
  • Coordinate with freight carriers to schedule pickups and communicate shipment requirements.
  • Track and update the status of outgoing shipments and report deviations or delays.
  • Conduct visual inspections of shipments to ensure accuracy and compliance with carrier standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and workready shipping area.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, routing selections for LTL and TL, and internal shipping reports.
  • Engage with freight representatives and drivers in a professional and positive manner.
  • Provide backup support to shipping and receiving operations as needed.
  • Audit orders, verify counts, and ensure documentation accuracy.
  • Utilize warehouse systems, scanners, and carrier websites to process shipments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs or operational changes.
Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • One to three years of shipping, receiving, or warehouse experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all orders and shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing slips, and content lists.
  • Proficient with basic computer applications, including Excel, scanners, label printers, multiple carrier websites, and warehouse management systems such as D365 and the Mobile App.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment with strict deadlines
  • Able to work independently and within a team.

  • The physical requirements required to perform this job include moderate lifting/carrying of up to 50 pounds; overhead or above shoulder reaching; bending at the waist occasionally; pushing/pulling a maximum of up to 50 pounds un-wheeled; twisting torso at the waist; use of fingers and both hands; ability to grasp medium with right/left hands; ability to flex/extend right/left hands; ability to do repetitive work with hands; ability to exert medium arm/hand force with right/left hands; ability to wear gloves on right/left hands; ability to use tools with right/left hands; ability to write; maximum standing of one hour per day; maximum sitting of five hours per day; maximum walking of two hours per day; kneeling; squatting; climbing using arms and legs; moving neck forward/back and turning right/left; ability to work in a wide temperature range; ability to work in high humidity; ability to work inside/outside; ability to work with solvents or chemicals, such as casting coating and fuels; ability to work around moving machinery; and ability to operate a crane, truck, forklift, or other moving vehicles.
  • Must be able to qualify for and maintain forklift certification.
  • Must wear common protective or safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.
