The Surgical Technician Lead is a certified clinician who provides intra-operative technical assistance to physicians and Registered Nurses (RN) who care for patients experiencing a surgical intervention or other invasive procedure. This role actively participates in the work of the unit, committee work, and program level activities and projects. In addition, the Lead Technician takes on the additional duties of an Assistant Service Leader for one or more surgical specialties.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Acts as assistant service leader for one or more surgical specialties. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordinating the purchase of supplies and equipment for the service(s) as needed; acting as a resource to staff and physicians for the services provided; assisting in orientation of staff to the specialty; creating and updating new procedures and preference cards as needed; acquiring loaner equipment/instruments/supplies from outside sources as needed; being a positive role model; and assisting with the implementation of new procedures and/or equipment/instrumentation within the service.
- Participates in proactive preparation for assigned surgical specialties and/or participates in case review.
- Assists with room turnovers and set-ups; restocks and orders supplies; utilizes downtime effectively; and participates in department quality improvement activities.
- Provides in-services to staff as applicable to surgical specialty.
- Utilizes preference cards to prepare for surgical procedure; scrubs all cases as assigned; anticipates needs of case by opening correct supplies and instruments; is attentive to flow of the surgery so that surgeons' needs are anticipated.
- Precepts new employees.
- Perform lead responsibilities for other team members, which include but are not limited to, training, and monitoring.
- Participates in departmental, divisional, and/or organizational committees and projects as assigned.
- Acts as a role model and demonstrates advanced subject matter expertise for other team members.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Associates degree in Surgical Technology is required.
Experience: Three years of surgical technician experience in an operating room is required.
Equivalency: Graduate of a military training program in surgical technology or Diploma in Surgical Technology with a surgical technologist certification may be considered in lieu of an Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology.
Certification(s): American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers at time of hire. NBSTSA or NCCT Certified Surgical Technologist
Licensure(s): State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Surgical Technologist or Surgical Assistant Registration
Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Hourly Range: $33.12 to $49.68
