About the Role
The welder/mechanic role needs to be familiar with field welding on aluminum and steel parts. The position also requires mechanic experience working with wheeled and/or tracked vehicles.

Responsibilities to Anticipate for this role
  • SMAW Welder with mechanic experience (SCA) experienced welder familiar with field welding on aluminum and steel parts working to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys;
  • Mechanic experience working with wheeled and/or track vehicles;
  • Ensure Supervisor/Manager is aware of critical issues and able to make appropriate decisions based on information supplied;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Leadership responsible for maintenance.
  • Welding small, medium, and large various metals and alloys
  • Soldering and brazing of copper pipe
  • Performing complex mechanical installations per engineering direction
  • Reading and comprehending drawings and specifications
  • Using specialized machinery for industrial welding and overseeing machines that perform the same job
  • Maintaining all welding machinery
  • Assessing welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors
  • Reading blueprints and drawings and taking or reading measurements to layout and procedures
  • Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Setting up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
  • Operating angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be weld

Qualifications Sought
  • Must have three (3) or more years of welding experience or formal weld training in lieu of experience, able to weld on aluminum and steel parts, working within required tolerances, and able to read welding symbols;
  • Must be willing to travel within the United States and OCONUS to perform welding tasks in the field when required;
  • Able to maintain welding certifications or to obtain certifications as required, including but not limited to certifying in Stick in all positions;
  • Must have mechanical experience working on wheeled and/or track vehicles;
  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • Must be a U.S. person;
  • Must be able to gain access military bases or facilities;
  • Able to secure and maintain a NACI and United States Passport, if required;
  • Must successfully pass a deployment physical that meets CONUS Replacement Center (CRC) requirements, if required;
  • Must be able to work independently and be an integral member of the Retrofit Team;
  • Must have a valid State Driver's License and be able to obtain a military license and meet the anthropometric requirements to entry into a drivers station or into an enclosed military vehicle;
  • Required to work at various heights, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, able to climb, to work in enclosed spaces - often in awkward positions, extreme temperatures and dusty environments;
  • Be able to work autonomously with U.S. or foreign government personnel.
  • Must pass all required testing by OSHA such as PFT, FIT, and DOT physicals annually.


Additional Information / Desired Experience
  • This position may require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance)
  • Must be able to work occasional evening and/or weekend overtime as required
  • Familiarity with military standards and test requirements desired.
