DESCRIPTION OF WORK

An employee in this position performs the work and directs inmates on an assigned shift in the maintenance, operation, and repair of a boiler plant that generates steam, hot water, chilled water, or electricity, or receives steam, hot water, chilled water, or electric services from outside vendors. Work includes monitoring boiler plant systems and making adjustments to ensure proper operation; keeping accurate records of fuel consumption and steam, hot water, or chilled water production; and recommending changes to procedures or equipment to increase plant efficiency. Work may involve the operation of auxiliary electric generating equipment for either regular production of electricity or as a standby for emergencies. An employee in this job is also responsible for the care, custody, and control of assigned inmates during a work shift. Work is assigned, monitored, and reviewed during the assigned shift and upon completion for conformance with instructions and safe operations by a technical or administrative supervisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
- Shift to be determined at time of hiring (7 day per week operation)
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925 (before taxes).
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
